YOU’RE INVITED!
Just a reminder that we be gathering at the 20 Pine Street Seymour Community Garden this coming Saturday morning to replace rotting wooden beds with prefab metal beds AND planting garlic.
Anyone can come but please RSVP so we have enough tools on hand for people to assist! Weather looks great (although a bit cool - dress accordingly).

Today, October 8, 2026, is the 11th annual Children’s Environmental Health (CEH) Day. CEH Day is based on the idea that, together, we can create a healthier, safer, more equitable world for all children—where fewer children suffer from preventable health issues. Focused on action and equity, the goal of CEH Day is to collectively increase the visibility of children's environmental health issues while empowering individuals and organizations to take action on behalf of children nationwide.
The environment affects children differently than adults. Children are at greater risk and are uniquely vulnerable to environmental hazards because their bodies, brains, and immune systems are still developing. Children breathe more air, drink more water, and eat more food per pound of body weight than adults. They are more likely to put their hands in their mouth.
Health problems from an environmental exposure can take years to develop. Because they are young, children have more time to develop health conditions and diseases than adults who are exposed later in their life.
Perfect day at the 15th annual Seymour Pink Pounding the Pavement 5K with staff, family, and friends this past weekend 🩷 It was a beautiful day to honor survivors and loved ones lost or affected by breast cancer, and a reminder no one has to fight alone. Our community rocks!

Naugatuck Valley Health District invites you to virtually attend Sextortion: Real-World Dynamics and Suicide Risk Considerations on August 11, 2026 at 7:00PM. The program will be presented by Alison Sullivan, retired police detective and founder of ProtectUs.
Sextortion is a rapidly escalating form of exploitation impacting youth across the United States. While commonly associated with image-sharing or online coercion, sextortion is increasingly linked to acute psychological distress, perceived entrapment, and suicide risk among teens.
This presentation focused on understanding sextortion not only as a digital safety issue, but also as a mental health and crisis-intervention concern requiring early recognition, supportive response, and proactive education by schools, families, clinicians, and community organizations.
Space is limited, so please register using this link: bit.ly/4vpbwrb.

⚠️Air Quality Alert ‼️
Smoke from Canadian wildfires is impacting air quality across Connecticut, including the Naugatuck Valley area. This creates hazy conditions and raises fine-particle pollution levels in some areas. Poor air quality can have significant adverse effects on sensitive groups. This includes children, older adults, pregnant people, and those with chronic medical conditions. It also affects people who are active outdoors.
If the forecast is red (unhealthy), there may still be times during the day when air quality is OK for outdoor activities. Check current air quality by visiting AirNow.gov or downloading the AirNow mobile app.
