So… this just happened. 😲 So very proud of our Flexport.org team.
.@aplusk & Mila Kunis were among the first to respond to our grief. They have already raised $35 million & are sending it to @flexport & @Airbnb to help 🇺🇦 refugees. Grateful for their support. Impressed by their determination. They inspire the world. #StandWithUkraine

"How many North Korean troops does it take to screw in an artillery shell?"

Goalie played the ball and it went backwards (does not count as a save attempt) and it would therefore have been an own goal.
Longest goal in football history, cancelled by one unnecessary touch.

That 45 degree line is arbitrary. It’s never been in the rule book. The rule is “attempted to strike at” and for a long time now has been consider to be going past parallel with the top edge of the plate.
This is how replay review would’ve looked if MLB allowed you to challenge a check swing (which they 100% should). As I said… it’s very clearly not a swing.

MLB players with a 45 degree rule would never strike out
The Yandy Diaz strikeout to end Game 2 would not have been close to a swing under the review system they've been testing in the minor leagues (via @tangotiger)

There is no definition in the rule book for a swing but I agree that the “unwritten rule” has been past the plane of the plate. 45 degrees is wild and goes back to the “break the wrist rule.”
I wasn’t gonna say anything cuz idk what the official rule book but this to me is ALWAYS a swing. Anything that breaks the plane of the home plate should be considered a swing. Up until this ACS stuff I feel I’ve never heard about the line being 45 degrees

In the UK they used to have coin operated gas meters in rental apartments. This is the stuff they leave out when talking about "going back to the good ole days."
Hey @grok, can you identify this mysterious device from 1962 ? 👀

Now the vibes crew suddenly wants replay and a strict definition

It’s a “game changer” that players actually need to follow the rules as written and not just go off of vibes.
I was thinking the same thing last night when I saw it live. I was explaining to my wife the “old school ‘in the area’ call. She replied - that’s stupid. His foot’s not on the base. 🤣 She is right. But now with instant replay, MLB players have to make a “real” play with their foot on the base. In my mind, game changer. I also believe coaches would not challenge every call like this because that’s the game. But in the World Series with runners on, I get it. Play with the rules given to you to help your team win.

Among other things: The Netherlands is not a Catholic country (hence why Belgium exists) and that Kosovo note is very problematic.

It was called the "vicinity" rule and it doesn't exist anymore.
If you were to grab replays from any game between 2000-2015 you would see the middle infielders touch second base MAYBE 40% of the time on a double play. You were literally taught not to

Two big storms in the Pacific impacting shipping. Off Taiwan Typhoon Champi has put a halt to vessel traffic as they shelter and await storm passage. Meanwhile in the north pacific a very large system is pushing shipping south off the great circle route. The combined storms will lead to several days of delays. (via Flexport Atlas)

Not all VLS are created equal
'Peak VLS' probably happened in 2021 for the US Navy, when around 10,200 VLS cells were available across all Ticonderoga, Burke, and Zumwalt ships (~9400), plus Ohio and Virginia (~800) subs. By 2027, it should fall to ~8650.

Trashing an important historical artifact due to hubris and incompetence is a big story, yes.
Who cares with everything going on? Like this is a big story?
