Far too often Christians talk as if we're just sinners who are: worthless. That is a lie we've believed & need to stop

Compelling sermons draw the listener in and make them feel like the preacher is speaking directly to them. Compelling sermons leave the listener wanting to hear more about what God is capable of doing in their lives.

A clear sermon removes unnecessary barriers between the biblical text and the listener.

One day you will give the keys back to your work. Make sure you bring your family with you.

Fasting is not simply about an empty stomach, it is an expression of a humble heart. When we fast we are denying our bodies of immediate satisfaction. Fasting helps us to see what is really taking place in our lives because we are refusing to comfort ourselves with food.

When we fast, we are reducing our consumption and intentionally redirecting our attention to the Lord.

Clarity in preaching requires intentionality from the first moments of sermon preparation until you say amen and humbly walk off the stage.

Clear preaching does not mean making the Bible simplistic. It means making God’s Word understandable to the people listening.

When we think about manuscript writing we might be able to summarize it like this: write the sermon beforehand and preach it naturally to others.

A short prayer during the day is still a meaningful conversation with God.

“Learning to pray doesn’t offer you a less busy life; it offers you a less busy heart.” -Paul E. Miller

Writing a manuscript protects the sermon from unfinished thinking. When preachers take the time to write out an illustration, they are better able to determine which details matter most and which ones can be left out.

Writing a manuscript forces the preacher to achieve clarity before entering the pulpit.

Dr. Rod Casey, a mentor of mine, likes to say, “You have to know what to leave on your desk so you don’t have to cut it in the pulpit.”
