If :edit or :write is slow (on a very big file), Nvim 0.13 will emit progress events.

Neovim :help docs in PDF form (autogenerated): neovim.io//doc/user/nvim-hel… Also, tables are now rendered in HTML/PDF (and :help has basic highlighting for table headings).

More :help pages are in "flow" layout. neovim.io/doc/user/support/#… Besides nicer HTML rendering, this opens the door for a future "presentation mode" where hard-wrapped text blocks can be viewed in flow layout.

This (recycled) HN story about Neovim deleting/losing undofile data, is false. news.ycombinator.com/item?id… Vim undofile "data loss" happens because Vim (VIM!) will reset the undofile if an external tool (git, nano) changes the file while Vim is not running. (:help undo-persistence) Nvim does not (never did) touch Vim's undofiles. Even if you force N/Vim to use the same state directory, there is no corruption risk because the format has a version code.

vim.async "structured concurrency" has landed ⏩ in Nvim 0.13! github.com/neovim/neovim/pul… Try it if you ever want to chain several callbacks together, or wait for multiple processes to finish. Optional handling of errors, cancellation, and more. Thanks to lewis6991 🫡

users are already extending Nvim 0.13 multicursor 💦 (cursors are queryable as an extmarks namespace) here's a script by celeste3z to get "align" functionality (similar to tabular, vim-lion): github.com/neovim/neovim/dis…

Repeat anything. Repeat anything. Repeat anything.
with CmdAtom, a lot of "leader key" mappings will just be unnecessary, bc you can compose macros on the fly. in this demo I type "n" + "zz", then I type "2" to bring up the cmdwin with the last 2 atoms prefilled. I hit Enter to save the macro, then repeats the macro. at the end of the demo I type "v" to split the window, then repeat it with ",,,," to repeat it a bunch of times.

killer feature: CmdAtom
The "atom" concept is now available in Neovim 0.13. All *user actions* emit CmdAtom events. This is a deep architectural upgrade, which provides the basis for multicursors (essentially "atomic macros"), plus other use cases: - repeat any "previous action" - repeat partial actions ("sub-modes") - repeat "visual operations" semantically See dev_arch.txt for notes on the design. github.com/neovim/neovim/pul…

Neovim, e/plugins retweeted
With the latest stable version of @Neovim it's simpler. I just have one plugin now (lua-fzf).

:bcd sets buffer-local "current directory" (CWD). :bcd some/dir/ Similar to :lcd (window-local) and :tcd (tab-local), except not "sticky". Use cases: - on LspAttach, :bcd to the workspace "root dir". - on :terminal OSC 7, :bcd to new dir. github.com/neovim/neovim/pul…

Since Nvim 0.11, you can :detach (and reattach later via :connect). Now you can tell Nvim 0.13 to "automatically detach" if your terminal closes unexpectedly (ssh disconnect, etc), like tmux. :silent detach! The "!" tells Nvim to keep running in the background even if the UI (your terminal or GUI) disappears. github.com/neovim/neovim/pul…

Note: this is not the default bc we assume most users want Nvim to fully stop when the host terminal/GUI is closed. tmux users expect tmux to stay alive, but most Nvim users probably don't expect that. But now you can just put ":detach!" in your config if you want that.
