Though not related to Neutral Milk Hotel, I would like to take a moment to use this platform for something that means a lot to me.

Today is the 25th anniversary of Neutral Milk Hotel releasing In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. A beautiful, painful, sorrowful, triumphant record that has touched so many lives.

This record makes me think of so many memories. But thank you to @Venus_InFurs for first showing me the album. To @DrPorkpie for seeing Jeff/NMH 5 times. And to everyone who ever tolerated me starting a sentence with “do you know the band Neutral Milk Hotel?”

I haven’t listened to it in forever. I think today is the day I give it a spin.

At last, a live rendition of Little Birds, recorded when Neutral Milk Hotel played the Prospect Park Bandshell in 2014 and featuring wonderful contributions from Jeremy Barnes & Heather Trost. Every time Jeff played this song on tour I was moved to tears. neutralmilkhotel.bandcamp.co…

Merge issuing the box set with a few updates. First new OAI vinyl color variant since 2011 (which is NOT in the box set). I wonder if something is happening. then again, the custom drawings Jeff did a few years back that seemed full of allusions to something signaled nothing lol

It’s almost the end of the year, so I’d like to know: what have been your favorite records of the last 12 months?

“Ants from up there” is the only release that is sonically comparable to the sound of most of NMH’s catalog. But most of these share that really visceral emotional impact that a lot of NMH material has on me. “Ants from up there” and Aveilut both made me cry.
