Her Indoors: I promised Newfs I would let you all know. It is over. I am in bits.
Today I said goodbye to my gorgeous girl. She went downhill very rapidly over the last few days. She was anaemic and possibly bleeding internally. At 13 and a half I decided to let her go without further investigation. I hope she will be waiting patiently for me at another gateπŸ’”

In France they have the great tradition of treading grapes to make wine. πŸ‡πŸ¦ΆπŸ»πŸ· In rural Hampshire we have the less well-known tradition of treading leaves to get more in the bin. πŸπŸ‚πŸ¦ΆπŸ»πŸ—‘οΈ It’s truly amazing how much they compress! This bin was overflowing before I climbed in.

So now we're in that funny bit between #Halloween and #BonfireNight. It's like a practice run for the weird bit between #Christmas and #NewYear. But with much less cheese.

If you are starting to build your bonfire for next week, please remember NOT to build it on the spot where it will be lit. You’ll need to move it the day you light it, or fence off the building area NOW, to prevent wildlife deaths. A hedgehog who has made it as a nest won’t move if you poke her with a broom, light the bonfire from one side, shine a torch under, or any of the other myths that you have read from well meaning sites. They’ll just stay in a frightened ball and be burnt to death.

Not just in Scotland. We have frequent power cuts and terrible mobile signal. Once the landline goes, we will be vulnerable. BT provide a battery backup for the digital phone , but it only lasts an hour or so. Useless for longer power outages.
With BT going digital,it is now very possible this winter that elderly people in the Highlands of Scotland will not be able to phone 999 at times. If a storm puts the power out & mobile reception, then many won't be able to phone 999. I fear there are tragedies waiting to happen

Thanks. I understand I was foolish. I wasn’t actually asking for any sympathy, but good to know.

It’s a very Novembery sort of a day, isn’t it? Grey, misty, and feels darker already at 3.30pm! I have been collecting leaves to make way for @BentleyTheMower to do his thing. Not as much fun as gardening with Newfy, but I do like watching him pootle about.

November guidelines for wearing a remembrance poppy: 1. If you don’t want to wear a poppy, you don’t need to explain your reasons. 2. If you do want to wear a poppy, you don’t need to explain your reasons either, because that’s what the poppy is doing.

I am feeling a bit of a prat. I just fell for a scam. On my other timeline I was complaining that I was having trouble with a Sykes Cottages booking. Someone replied with an email address for them that might help me, and I foolishly emailed it without doing due diligence.

So I am now getting phishing emails wanting my personal details etc. And I had forwarded them an email from Sykes with details of our holiday. So god knows if I have compromised my account there as well. I am such an idiot!

After 7 years, 4 months and 13 days, my partner Millie has worked her last shift and officially retires due to ongoing medical issues. Over the years she has worked with the Police, Customs and most notably the Isle of Man Prison Service, contributing to some significant finds and proving time and again what an incredible working dog she is. She has been a fantastic asset, but more importantly, she has been a loyal partner and an absolute pleasure to work alongside. I will certainly miss working with my little fluffy diva every day, but I am grateful for all the memories we've shared and proud of everything she has achieved. Now it's time for her to enjoy a long, happy and well-deserved retirement at home with my family. Well done, Millie. Thank you for everything

A classic chart to counter the wisdom of crowds idea. US Americans are absolutely clueless about how common things are. They think over a quarter of Americans are Native Americans, one in five Americans is transgender, over a quarter of the population are Muslim, one in five households earn over half a million dollars. The right answer to all of these questions is 1%. They build their worldview on totally incorrect assumptions towards reality. Data literacy matters.
