🇸🇻🇭🇹 UPDATE: El Salvador’s President Bukele has launched a military operation to rescue four Salvadoran soldiers kidnapped by gangs in Haiti. @NayibBukele: “We have already finished with the gangs in El Salvador, and we can finish with you too.” The four aviation technicians, part of a UN-backed anti-gang force, went missing after gangs attacked their armored vehicle Sunday. Gangs control about 70% of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.
🇸🇻El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele said Haitian gangs were holding four Salvadorans serving with a UN-backed international security force. He said he had launched a military operation to bring them back unharmed. Efforts to reach the missing personnel have been hampered by intense fighting, El Salvador’s military and the force said earlier this week.

🇫🇷 A patient in France has died after doctors found a cattle virus in a human for the first time ever. Shamonda virus usually infects livestock and spreads through bites from tiny flies called midges. It was thought not to infect people. Officials think the patient caught it in eastern France, where it spread among animals this year. French health officials say there’s no risk to the general public for now.

🇺🇸 A Minneapolis café that stopped charging for food to protest ICE raids is closing for good at the end of the year. In January, Modern Times owner Dylan Alverson said he was “done making money for the fascists that occupy our city” and switched to free, donation-based meals, welcoming everyone “except ICE.” He brought prices back in August but kept giving away 25 meals a day. He says he’s run out of options.

The Missouri senator called the Democratic Party “post-American” and warned that a Democratic House after the Nov. 3 midterms would threaten funding for ICE. He pointed to new Boeing fighter jet jobs and a federal crime crackdown in St. Louis as wins from working with Trump.

🇺🇦 Ukraine will be able to buy weapons through NATO’s own purchasing agency, which could get them faster and cheaper, the Financial Times reports. The NATO Support and Procurement Agency buys arms in bulk for member countries. Ukraine, which isn’t a NATO member, can now use its existing contracts, supply networks and deals with manufacturers.

🇫🇷🇶🇦 Qatar and France are calling for the Strait of Hormuz to reopen to ships “without constraints or fees,” and condemned Iran’s attacks on countries in the region. After meeting in Doha, Qatar’s emir and Macron also urged Israel to pull its troops out of Gaza under the ceasefire deal and let aid in without limits. About 1.4 million Gazans face severe hunger, the UN says. Iran’s FM says Iran is “prepared to give diplomacy another chance.”

🇧🇷 The PT and Lula’s campaign are spreading false or distorted information about @FlavioBolsonaro in the final stretch of the runoff, potentially amounting to an electoral crime. Accusations circulated that Flávio intended to strip Nossa Senhora Aparecida of her title as Patroness of Brazil. This is an outright lie. He publicly denied the claim, and the title isn’t even granted by the President of the Republic. Even so, the material was used in PT campaign pieces. The Electoral Court upheld a video that calls Flávio a “Master liar” and lists dozens of alleged “lies,” treating what is a distortion of context as political criticism. The state and party machinery are being used to manufacture a narrative against the opponent. Inventing or distorting information to influence votes is not “political combat.” It is abuse.
🇧🇷 Federal police are investigating @FlavioBolsonaro's ties to lawyer Willer Tomaz. The case, which grew out of a broader inquiry into betting platforms and money flows, reached the Supreme Court and became public hours before the first runoff debate. It was drawn by the standard electronic lottery to Justice Alexandre de Moraes, the same justice who oversaw the conviction of Flávio’s father, @JairBolsonaro . Moraes is himself the subject of a multimillion-real scandal: his wife’s law firm held a contract worth roughly R$ 130 million with Banco Master for “strategic consulting.” The random draw, the subject matter, and the precise timing, less than a week before Sunday’s runoff against Lula, have fueled claims that the process is being weaponized, regardless of the underlying facts of the inquiry

🇺🇸 @Tesla is generating strong free cash flow while advancing its AI, robotics, and autonomy roadmap, and @ElonMusk sees major upside in combining it with @SpaceX. Tesla refined its 2026 capital plan to roughly $20 billion and delivered a surprise $1.53 billion in free cash flow last quarter. The company continues to invest in Optimus, @robotaxi/Cybercab, AI compute, and related initiatives, while managing capital efficiently to fund growth primarily from operations. Elon called a Tesla-SpaceX merger a “good idea,” noting substantial synergies across superintelligence software, chip design, robotics, energy, mass-to-orbit, and connectivity.
🇺🇸 @ElonMusk’s two biggest companies, SpaceX and Tesla, report earnings this week. @SpaceX reports today, @Tesla tomorrow. Both are aggressively building for SI: last quarter alone, SpaceX put $15.8 billion of its $18.4 billion investment budget into it. That’s the kind of infrastructure spend that can actually scale superintelligence, robotics, and mass-to-space. Investors are also watching for any further alignment between the companies. Tesla’s new shareholder filing includes standard change-in-control provisions in Elon’s long-term stock awards (common in executive packages to protect incentives in a major deal). Any combination would still need the proper process, but the overlap in AI, chips, energy, and robotics keeps growing.

🇺🇸🇷🇺 Stephen Hubbard, the 73-year-old American jailed in Russia since 2022, is back in the U.S. His plane landed at a military base in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday. The Kremlin says Putin freed the retired teacher at Trump’s request because of his poor health, and Trump says the U.S. gave nothing in return.
🇺🇸🇷🇺 @SEPeaceMissions Witkoff met Stephen Hubbard, the 73-year-old American just freed from a Russian prison. Russia convicted Hubbard in 2024 of fighting for Ukraine as a mercenary and sentenced him to nearly 7 years. He denied it, and the US said he was wrongfully detained. Russian troops seized him from his home in Ukraine in 2022.

🇺🇸 Airbnb is banning hosts from forcing guests to strip beds, wash dishes, do laundry, or take out trash before checking out. The new rules, taking effect Nov. 20, follow complaints from guests who were expected to clean rental properties despite already paying cleaning fees. Hosts can still request simple tasks like placing dirty dishes in the sink, but they can no longer impose their own fines or require guests to complete work normally handled by professional cleaners.

🇺🇸 "Jane Doe" of the "Cornell 7" alleged gang rape case has dropped her lawsuit against a former fraternity president after identifying the wrong man. Orazio Petito was named in the case for allegedly failing to prevent the 2024 assault, despite not being president of the fraternity at the time. Petito was never accused of participating in the alleged assault, and the claims against him have been permanently dismissed.
🇺🇸 More than 100 women gathered on a Las Vegas Strip rooftop to scream together in solidarity with the woman at the center of the “Cornell 7” case. Organizers said the event was a safe space to vent anger over sexual violence.
