I nerd out on business, finance, investing, and software. I built a farm management software company, Harvest Profit (acquired by John Deere in 2020).

Here's how this works... We provision the hosting and database, so you don't have to. The workflow 👇 1. You sign up for our free hosting app. You describe the app/software you want there and it copies a precise handoff to your AI. 2. Your AI connects with a one-time code you approve. That access is locked to that one app, lasts 30 min, and is saved in your computer's secure password storage, not the chat. 3. It can only submit a draft version. You preview it with throwaway test data (if you want), then you publish. The AI can't publish on its own. 4. Live apps run in a sealed-off window on a separate domain with no internet access. They only read and write their own data, through our app, which checks every request. Your data will then be encrypted (at rest). The same level of security used by nearly all cloud software on the market today. The key benefit is that you can use the AI you already pay for to build and update your application, but you don't have to worry about the headaches of setting up the hosting, database, and multi-user authentication.
I built a demo parts tracking app in Claude and pushed it all into our hosting infrastructure. I didn’t have to mess with signing up for any hosting or database services. This works with ChatGPT, Grok, Claude, Gemini and others. It’s now has a database, is live in my mobile app where I can share with others, and can be exported if you ever want move it elsewhere. This hosting platform is something we’re going to launch before the end of the year!

This is obviously a very AI-looking app. But being able to go from idea to a live team-ready app using the AI tool you already pay for is fun (in one prompt by the way)!

We will be running a couple more cohorts of this course this winter. If you’re interested, sign up for the waiting list at AIonYourFarm.com
A farmer who's taken our AI course has a older dryer with an auto mode that no longer works. He's felt like they have simply made educated guesses over the years when making setting changes. They haven't had much confidence in them. So he used AI to build a model to predict the moisture output based on current weather, input, and settings. These graphs show how his model has performed vs. his samples. Pretty good imo!

After using ChatGPT to design an app for myelf, I designed a simple habit tracking app using Grok and it was live in my app portfolio a minute later. I didn't like this design, so I updated it from the Grok chat and it live updated in my app portfolio (need to come up with a better name for this feature!). We have a lot of work to do on the UI and UX of this but it's promising.
We're working on something fun..... A way to use your AI subscriptions to build apps that are automatically built and hosted on our infrastructure. It's like Lovable or Bolt but you can use whatever LLM tool/model you want to design and build the application. And you don't have to worry about how to get the application up and running outside of your LLM. This solves one of the biggest needs we've seen in our AI on Your Farm cohorts.

ChatGPT build me this energy/sleep tracker and pushed it right into our software where I can use it (and other apps I build).

There will be more and more vibe coded farm software in the market. Before you use any of those platforms, ask yourself this question “do I trust this team/person to also be the head of security for my data?” I use a handful of AI coded tools every day that I’ve built for myself. I use reputable hosts who deploy patches for me. And I work with a couple of great software developers who can dive into anything that I need help with. In this environment, you should use tools developed by teams with real software engineering experience or build your own tools for your less sensitive data.
Two critical vulnerabilities have been identified in PHP, a widely used programming language that powers websites and web applications. These vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619) could allow malicious cyber actors to remotely execute code in PHP core, potentially compromising sensitive data and networks. The FBI urges organizations to take the following steps now: ➡️ If an immediate update is not feasible it is recommended that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. ➡️ Immediately update affected PHP installations following the guidance on php.net. Inventory where PHP runs in your environment, prioritizing internet-facing systems and vendor products that bundle PHP. ➡️ Monitor web servers for suspicious activity, including PHP processes unexpectedly launching command shells or downloading files. Ensure appropriate process-monitoring capabilities are in place to help identify potential exploitation. ➡️ If you find signs of compromise, isolate affected systems, preserve your web server and PHP logs, and report it to your local FBI field office or ic3.gov. Those reports help us identify the actors involved and warn other organizations before they become victims. For the latest information, follow PHP’s announcement on php.net, CERT-EU Security Advisory 2026-018, and CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog.

The same thing was/is applicable to farms outside of the corn/soy belt, just different crops/enterprises. Getting the operating note paid off right after harvest can compound a lot of interest savings over a career!

I was out and about today and it appears soybean harvest is wrapping up. Over the years of working with farmers, I noticed an interesting trend. Most of the farmers who still carried a material debt load but were in a really solid financial spot were in the habit of turning all their soybeans into cash at harvest. They would then use that cash to pay off their operating note. While it’s hard to paint a broad brush given that all farms do things a little different, this was a pattern that stuck out to me. They then store, corn and or wheat, which in our area has more predictable carry and basis patterns.

My MacBook Pro has been running for almost 100 hours straight screenshotting public government docs and stitching them back into PDFs for me. 75,000 pages so far. I have to hide it in my utility room so my wild boys don’t mess it up!

Simple prompt to ChatGPT Codex, "Please use computer use to help me cancel these subscriptions." with a picture of the subscriptions from my credit card statement. It completed it in 3 min, 45 sec. $1,188 saved. (I try a ton of different tools but the ones that are sticky are quite limited)

44,307 pages processed so far. Running at 20-25k per day. I’m going to spin up a few VPS (computers in the cloud) to speed it up!
There’s a source of data I’m interested in that contains ~2 million pages of PDFs. Pages can be viewed for free or downloaded for $.50/page. Nothing in their terms of service prohibits me from taking screenshots of the PDFs in their viewer and stitching them back together into the original file. But this is such a time-consuming task that it would take years for me to do manually! So I built a system where ChatGPT is doing it all for me. I’m using an old MacBook Pro to work in a continuous loop to download all 2 million pages. After a few hiccups, my database is starting to fill up! It takes a few seconds per page so it’s going be a lengthy process. (I’m not going to resell or distribute these docs so I’m comfortable with the use case.)

Steve replaced Quickbooks with Claude
Update: This system worked but it was a little clunky getting transactions converted over so I sort of fell into my old habit of avoiding my bookkeeping. I worked with Claude and sort of supercharged it. Have to say Claude has been superior in getting my books caught up.
