There’s a great book w a fantastic index in the back (which is why I have it) but its intention was similar to hannon but closer to this. Schmitt preparatory exercises for the piano. You may like it a lot. It’s a bunch of super short, one or two measure exercises. The whole first giant batch w just five finger in place in the key of c. Cdefg. So you don’t really have to be a reader. You do them to a slow click or drumbeat. Focusing on accuracy and then slowly speed them up. I’ve found great results w a few exercises only a few times. And come back to it tomorrow. And keep that cycle happening. The key is the come back tomorrow. For the muscle memory to take hold. Can see each day. Re the index. Has proper fingerings for scales and arpeggios etc.

"The Memory Remains" marked the first time Metallica featured a guest vocalist on one of their studio albums. James Hetfield originally had no lyrics for the song's haunting "la la la" section, which began as a placeholder. The idea eventually evolved into a character inspired by Sunset Boulevard: a forgotten star driven almost insane by the loss of her former fame. When the band decided that the part needed an older female voice, producer Bob Rock suggested Marianne Faithfull, whose weathered voice perfectly captured the atmosphere they wanted. Faithfull recorded her vocals in Dublin while Metallica were on tour in Europe, adding the distinctive backing vocals that became one of the song's most recognisable elements. "The Memory Remains" was released in 1997 as the lead single from Reload, reaching No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, and No. 13 on the UK Singles Chart. The song's demo, simply titled "Memory," had been recorded at Lars Ulrich's home studio as early as 1995.

Studio notes — Tuesday, October 27 Today I'm starting something new: studio notes. I'll try to write one every weekday, about my impressions, what I'm creating and working on, maybe some techniques, and reflections and questions about the creative process. This morning I worked a lot on My Second Guess, trying to finish some projects that were already well along. I'm really happy with what's coming: interesting pieces, a little melancholic. I can't wait to share them. I've also been working a lot on my YouTube channel lately, making mixes and Eurorack modular versions of existing pieces. It's something I really want to keep growing, so come see me there too. Looking forward to having you along for these studio notes.

🎹 7 major piano scales. 33 seconds. Can you keep up? A quick run-through from A to G. How many can you play from memory? 👀🎶

72 Seasons by Metallica. A few years late but I’ve been deep in this one all month. Raw power. Heavy riffs. Lars locked in and tight. Thought-provoking lyrics. Just when you count them out, they rise again. This is another masterful Metallica album.

It’s ok to enjoy Metallica AND Megadeth. It’s ok to shit on Led Zeppelin and be a massive Nirvana fan. Art is subjective. Enjoy what you can, when you can, while you can. ✌️

🚨 New Composition! Been working on this one over the week. This whole month I’ve been diving into all of the minor scales. I love the spooky sound they give and it’s very fitting for the month of October. What kind of vibes does this give you?

STORY TIME: 📄✍🏻 Once upon a time, there was a girl named Meena who was hopelessly in love with the X algorithm. Unfortunately, the algorithm wanted absolutely nothing to do with her. But Meena refused to give up. She perfected her shitposting skills, engaged with good people, and slowly worked her way into the algorithm's cold little heart. Eventually, the algorithm started noticing her. Their love grew, her impressions went up, and things were looking GOOD. Until one cursed day… October 13. Enter the villain: the missing blue checkmark. Apparently, Meena's guardian disapproved of her relationship with the algorithm. The blue check abandoned her, and the algorithm, pressured by society, decided to abandon her too. Poor Meena was left heartbroken, watching her reach disappear into thin air. The only ones who stayed by her side were her REAL ONES. They never left, never switched sides, and never stopped showing up for her. Then, TEN DAYS LATER, the blue checkmark returned. It looked Meena in the eyes and said, "I have no problem with you and the algorithm being together. My bad." And guess what happened that very night? The algorithm slid back into Meena's life with a royal gift of 36K impressions and an apology that basically said, "Baby, I can explain." Now the algorithm wants Meena back, the blue check is home, and the impressions are looking healthy again. But Meena has a problem. Should she forgive the algorithm and give this relationship another chance, or should she make it work for that blue-check privilege after everything it put her through? Meena is asking her REAL ONES for advice. Do we forgive the algorithm, or do we make it sweat a little longer? 😂😭

Practicing D minor. Majors feel comfortable now, so these last few weeks I’ve been running all the minor scales. I love how ominous they sound. Perfect for October. What’s something you’ve been working through that felt uncomfortable at first? Let’s connect.
