-We found a 'new' Vibrio chitin import porin!
-Also found a vital gene regulator of cell filamentation that supports environmental fitness
New work by @LandonGetz and Oriana Robinson from the Thomas Lab @Dal_micro_immun biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
We also found that the HexR gene regulator is essential to support efficient growth, biofilm formation and cell motility when chitin is the sole carbon source.
Honoured to receive this recognition from @DalhousieU for Excellence in Graduate Supervision.
I’ve been very fortunate to have an outstanding cadre of scientists in my lab. It’s a mutually enriching experience! dal.ca/dept/clt/awards_grant…

If you've induced phages, you may have wondered if you can do the 'opposite' - block entry into lysogeny. You can, using protein synthesis inhibitors! Better still, this yields a potent synergy, functionally turning a temperate phage into a virulent one.

Excited to share our latest study uncovering gut microbes and microbial metabolites linked to cardiovascular health! We show that Oscillibacter is associated w/decreased cholesterol in human subjects & that these bacteria take up &metabolize cholesterol.
