ALT Looking for a new doctoral student in science education to join the University of Illinois to work on the EMPOWER project. EMPOWER is a 5-year NIH-funded project in collaboration with the University of Colorado Boulder that involves working with middle and high school science teachers to adapt and enact NGSS Storyline-based materials to better support students’ epistemic agency. Up to 5 years of funding (up to 50% RAship) available, including tuition waiver. Research interests in science teacher learning; teacher professional development; students’ epistemic agency; and qualitative research would be good fits. Experience teaching science at the 5-12 level and/or working with secondary science teachers a plus. Contact Dr. Stina Krist ([email protected]) for more information, and apply to the PhD program in Math, Science, & Engineering Education by Dec 1 here: https://education.illinois.edu/ci/programs-degrees/mse

ALT A photo of a white board with blue sticky notes containing strategies to code in the program written by students. The board is divided into two halves. The left half has one main prompt asking what should we change for our test, and two sub-prompts stating action changes and script changes. Then a prompt below asks them why will these changes help. There are two prompts on the right half of the board. One states what did we find out? and the second says what can we try next.
