Deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague and senior journalist Payal Mehta.
Payal was one of the standout political reporters of her generation — deeply respected, remarkably well connected and a formidable presence in Parliament. Her access was matched by her understanding of national politics, and her relentless commitment to being on the ground made her reporting stand apart.
At CNN-News18, we take immense pride in the journalism and legacy she leaves behind. Beyond the reporter was a colleague remembered for her warmth, generosity and kindness.
Her loss leaves a huge void in our newsroom and in the wider journalistic fraternity. We will deeply miss her.

यानी एक साल में करीब 9,900 स्कूलों की कमी।
सबसे बड़ी गिरावट मेघालय, तेलंगाना और आंध्र प्रदेश में दर्ज हुई।

As the dust settles down, 2 things stand out as positive markers for Indian democracy.
1. The youth of India have a powerful voice and focused on making it heard with grace and humour
2. Equally the Government has shown it's ability to hear their voice. The fact of 2 central ministers having direct talks, and now the resignation of Mr Pradhan, shows that we are a robust republic.
In Bidar, two allegedly intoxicated youths reportedly rode a motorcycle straight into the Emergency Ward of a district hospital, claiming a headache, disrupting emergency services and endangering patients and staff.
On one hand, we rightly condemn police excesses against Gen Z whenever they occur—they should never be tolerated. On the other, accountability must apply equally to everyone.
Respect for law and public institutions cannot be selective. Condemn police atrocities. Condemn reckless lawlessness too.
