I think my main take away from going to the men’s Metro Bank final this year was how much people still love one day cricket. The ground had large empty pockets partly due to scheduling but the attendance and passion for what has essentially been relegated to a second XI competition by the ECB was staggering.
The fact the ECB can still sit there and look at that coupled with our ODI results in recent years and continue to neglect the format is pure negligence. We’ve seen the issue of batters struggling with pacing innings but more recently the bowling has been horrific. Something needs to be done desperately. There’s clearly not an instant fix to the continued systematic unravelling of our domestic structure but allowing our best players to play even a portion of the MBODC would be a start because I feel like we’re not far from an era in which players will regularly make their list A debuts in an ODI.
“Do you fancy being in an ad?”
“Yeah why not, what is it?”
“Just eat this KFC and watch the cricket”

If you asked the Tudors to choose between their favourite child right now they might say they love them both equally but deep down they can’t look at one of them the same since they murdered the nations hopes and dreams.
