Ah yes, it's definitely not Nigel who looks foolish!
Lefties furious at stunning result for @Nigel_Farage who outmanoeuvred them again by denying them the opportunity to stage stupid stunts at the count. They look extraordinarily foolish today.

Bruh, haven't you seen "the discourse"? We gotta check the poll numbers on that first.

Let me guess: Billy's a pedo?
Those of us who have always hated Smashing Pumpkins really feeling vindicated.

This is hilarious because you click through and see people in her own party are avoiding her...
She’s not unimpressive. Americans are too invested in containing China by pushing Taiwan to the front line of their new cold war to listen to her message of peace.

I'm old enough to remember Dick Cheney and Ronald Dumsfeld both going on TV saying we'd be welcomed as liberators and it'd be easy-peasy.
Most of the quotes that people show of the Bush administration promising a quick war in Iraq refer to the initial invasion and toppling of the Hussein regime. They said much less about how the military occupation of the country would go.

The funny thing is everybody is dooming about AI but it's gonna be another pandemic. They're totally ignoring the whole thing and that's how you get another one of those.
The doom posting is completely out of control on this site. Every third post is some blackpill thing. You need to chill out. Nobody knows anything, except for the people who are barred from talking about whatever it is or isn’t. (I did check my preps today tho… 🤷‍♂️)

If the AI companies have piled up as much bad debt as some people are saying then those two things are gonna be the same thing.
I think there's an excellent chance AI skyrockets into being a defining issue for the 2028 election, probably alongside (as always), the economy.

Which is the perfect argument for Congress to wipe the slate clean on the Supreme Court. They can do a hard reset on that shit. Article III only says they gotta set up the court the rest is just made up.
Trump was indicted and scheduled for trial and the Supreme Court responded by making him above the law

Okay, seriously, look at this picture then look at one of his son and try to tell me this dude didn't clone himself.
Jair Bolsonaro thought he would be free tomorrow. Now he will spend the rest of life in jail.

That's the thing I've been saying about Yglesias forever. He is above all a social media personality. He's never had any original ideas. What he's a Jedi master at is trolling the left to keep his name in the discourse or whatever. That's been his schtick since the start.

2/ like MY or want his worldview to win out, you should try to understand his appeal! MY was an undeniably talented OG blogger from the very earliest days and there are clear reasons he is a Substack millionaire. It's just delusional.

2027 might be a real Darwin year. A lot of people think Covid was fake...
There is something really concerning (and disappointing) going on in the US right now. A dangerous and preventable situation. Let me explain. nextstrain.org/avian-flu/h5n… 1/

It shall henceforth be known as "pulling an Eby".
Very much a “the conservatives didn’t win this, the NDP lost it” election. What a fuck up.

So, how does one go about collecting $542 billion in debt if Anthropic goes tits up? Also, I love how the great knowers of the econs have all been like "It's the same business model that built the railroads!" Go ahead and google "Panic of 1873" to see how that turned out.
Translated: Unfavorable Media coverage of AI could expose the fact that Anthropic is in debt by at least $542 billion in non-cancellable cloud infrastructure commitments to Amazon and Google. Anthropic must pay regardless of whether they use the compute or not.

This is truly hilarious coming from the know-it-all "generalist" crowd. Not one scintilla of self awareness. Just like AIs! I literally made that connection early on and started referring to Matt Yglesias as MattGPT. But it didn't catch on so I stopped.

Communism is the opium of the grad students.
Moral high ground based on victimhood. For the post-Soviets, that is like heroin. They get addicted super fast and then can never ever get off Important to keep in mind

I mean, wasn't the revolution partly a fight over beaver pelts or some shit?
This would be such an incredibly funny thing for the political fate of the US to turn on

Hoes sad.
i was emotionally prepared to be hated for beliefs i actually hold or actions i actually did. i was totally emotionally unprepared for people to make up stuff i don't believe or didn't do and then hate me for those things. It feels way sadder that way somehow.

Seriously though, did his father have himself cloned? WTAF?
BREAKING: Flávio Bolsonaro is refusing to concede Brazil's presidential election and says he will seek to have the election annulled after losing to President Lula. He's citing a Supreme Court justice's last-minute two-hour voting extension — which his own campaign had also requested. Brazil's electoral court has officially declared Lula the winner, with approximately 51.8% of the vote to Bolsonaro's 48.2%.

It sure as shit doesn't help to keep handing him ammunition though.
Actually there are a lot of “centrists” on here criticizing Stevens for really inexcusable comments. But Mehdi’s angle is always stoking intrafactional turmoil and leveling threats.

I mean, I don't blame them really. A lot of those people aren't gonna quit and are there under court order. Might as well just make the process as comfortable as possible for everybody involved.
