While it's silly that WotC removed Half-Elf and Half-Orc, an elegant fix that avoids porting their 5e versions is to let each character choose Human or Elf ancestry (Half-Elf), or Human or Orc ancestry (Half-Orc), based on which traits best represent their upbringing and culture

Today at the @Club_Tartarus restaurant, we have a special occasion.
@UltraTtrpger hosted a game night and asked to use the kitchen so he could prepare snacks. Seems like he had his mind set on a beautiful charcuterie board for his players to enjoy!
Now @Marakath, @Nobleshield, @OctaviusBone, and @raemilus have tasty and healthy food to enjoy while they game!
What games do you or your OCs enjoy? Tell us.

My view:
The DM is the game world.
If players are not happy then they are free to find another DM.
There can always be productive discussions but the DM is the architect, game engine and director.

One of the things I really hate about modern D&D (and many modern RPGs, for that matter) is moving away from "The GM is the final arbiter," and more toward "The player is allowed to use books they buy."
It seems we have largely moved away from "The DM creates a world, proposes a campaign, and the players make characters who fit that campaign," and instead moved to the player saying, "I have a character concept I want to play, and the campaign should accommodate it if possible."
There is a subtle, but very important, difference between the player asking the GM if Option A is allowed (because the default is that it's up to the GM), and the player assuming Option A is allowed (because that's the default) and the GM having to justify why Option A is NOT allowed.
When I can come up with a better "quest arc" for our mishmash 5e D&D game in 5 minutes than the DM who says he's been playing since 1974 but constantly stonewalls our progress, there is a problem.
Yikes.

The thing I don't understand is for a game apparently built to be super deadly and dangerous, the early levels offer almost no fun stuff. As a thief I have a really poor chance to hide in the shadows, listen to things, or climb. I never really get to use the backstab even though my DM is pretty liberal about me trying to litigate for using it lol. The fact "checking for traps" takes 10 minutes for a 10 foot space almost makes it completely worthless, even with the small chance I have to actually find anything if its there.
Perhaps the worst part of the experience was using the 3d6 in line stat rolls. I have one stat (charisma at 15) with an actual positive bonus. So not only do I not get to do much special, but even when I do attack I don't hit a lot.

in my humble opinion, this is still one of the all-time-best art styles we've ever included in a book 🔥🔥
“Just play however you want” has been the answer for 50 years.
That didn't stop WotC from turning a group of activists' preferences into NuD&D itself.
Now that they've gotten their way, criticism gets dismissed with “just play however you want.” Why wasn't that good enough before?
I never know how to respond to people who ask in the game store's discord about D&D games going on since we don't do anything other than the owner running a game once in a blue moon (been like 3 months since the last session).
The store does basically nothing to support games

you can only keep one. the other is cast into the ether forever. which campaign wins?
This illustrates the #1 issue people have with old-school RPGs: there's not much to mechanically differentiate two PCs of the same class.
Two Human Fighters have different stats but, other than weapons and armor to give a unique appearance, they are functionally identical

They play the same. Everyone is doing the same thing just changing the color. That is bornig.
While I think it's way too simplified for most people, there is a very elegant simplicity to the original D&D approach: everyone has d6 Hit Dice, and all weapons deal d6 damage; it makes weapon choice a purely cosmetic option that helps illustrate the PC.
Three PCs might both be Fighters ("Fighting Men"), but one is a rugged warrior from the north (Viking-style), swinging a battle axe and carrying a dagger. Another PC served in a militia or private army, so he carries a spear and a short sword and makes sure he has a shield. A third is a more knightly character, wearing chain or plate armor and carrying a shield, a traditional longsword, and perhaps a mace.

The producer? So wait. You mean all of the retards spamming “corporate greed” and “capitalism” as reasons for why BioWare died were talking out of their asses?
What do they say now that we know the producer was more concerned with gatekeeping anyone right of center from the company than hiring the most qualified people? Ideological conformity really was more important than having talented employees capable of generating profit.
It’s almost like leftists irrespective of location or industry practice nepotism so grossly all encompassing that one could call it incestuous in nature.
Reminder that we’re meant to believe that they’ve monopolized artistic vocations such as animation, movie, and game studios organically due to them being more “creative.”
Most of them are highly tribal, nepotistic, untalented, bums with personalities and politics so insanely terrible that without great effort to stack the deck wouldn’t be able to compete in their own fields.
Check Hollywood’s culture and discriminatory practices and extrapolate that out to anything dominated by leftists; from Universities to art studios you’ll undoubtedly see the same trend.
