I met with Norwegian Minister of Defense Tore O. Sandvik, Kongsberg President and CEO Eirik Lie, and representatives of the company, which manufactures NASAMS air defense systems. These systems effectively protect our people and critical infrastructure from Russian missile and drone strikes virtually every day. We are counting on additional defense support packages next month.
Norway is also actively involved in FREYJA, our European anti-ballistic program. We already have the first results in developing individual components of the system. Today, we identified where we can and must accelerate our work so that testing can begin by the end of this year. We also discussed in detail launching work on new satellite communication capabilities for our warriors. We will involve partners who have the capacity to provide support. Thank you, Norway!

Today, together with 🇳🇴Ambassador @NorwayAmbUSA Anniken Huitfeldt, we co-hosted a briefing on the humanitarian catastrophe in #Oleshky and surrounding villages in the temporarily occupied Kherson region, for diplomats, U.S. Department of State representatives, human rights organizations, journalists, and think tanks.
Before Russia’s full-scale invasion, 25,000 people lived in Oleshky. Today, only around 2,000 remain, including 35 children. For years, they have lived without electricity, gas, heating, or water supply. No food has been officially delivered since May 26, 2026. The only supply route crosses mined territory under the threat of shelling. Ukraine has tried to reach starving residents, including by drone.
What is happening in Oleshky echoes the Holodomor of 1932–1933, the genocide committed by the Soviet regime against Ukrainians. Today, Russia is once again using starvation, destruction, and the denial of humanitarian aid as weapons against our people. These are war crimes that demand international attention and concrete action.
I am grateful to Ambassador Anniken Huitfeldt and our Norwegian partners @NorwayUS for their solidarity and co-hosting this briefing. Thank you to @avalaina and @ZarinaZabrisky for their powerful testimonies about Oleshky.
The people of Oleshky must not be forgotten. Their lives depend on international attention and action.

Some 25,000 people lived in Oleshky before the full-scale invasion. About 2,000 remain, including 35 children. They have gone years without electricity, gas, heating, or running water. No food has been officially delivered since May 26, 2026, and the only supply route runs through mined territory under shelling. Ukraine has tried to reach starving residents, including by drone deliveries.
Chargé d’Affaires a.i. @DenysSienik warned: “The situation in Oleshky echoes the Holodomor of 1932–1933, the genocide committed by the Soviet regime against Ukrainians. Today, Russia is once again using starvation, destruction, and the denial of humanitarian aid as weapons against our people. These are war crimes that demand international attention and concrete action.”
Our sincere thanks to @NorwayAmbUSA Anniken Huitfeldt for her partnership and solidarity. We are also grateful to @avalaina and @ZarinaZabrisky for sharing such powerful testimonies about Oleshky.

Arrived in Norway with my team. Important meetings are scheduled: a trilateral with Jonas Gahr Støre and Alex Stubb, a bilateral with Steve Witkoff, and a meeting of all four of us. I will also have an audience with King Haakon VIII of Norway and a meeting with the Storting. We are maintaining all contacts that can help bring peace. We will also discuss strengthening our air defense and joint production. I am grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine and a dignified path to peace.
Vikings just wanna have fun. 🎶🛶🍻
Takk to everyone who joined our first-ever joint Leif Erikson Day with @IcelandInUS
During #America250, we celebrated Leif who arrived 1000 years ago, and the Icelandic, Norwegian, and other Nordic immigrants who followed in his wake. 🇮🇸🇳🇴🇺🇸

I spoke with @JonasGahrStore. I thank the Prime Minister and all Norwegians for their support. This is a particularly critical time, when new steps are needed to prevent Russia from getting the impression that it can break the world and continue the war forever. I briefed the Prime Minister on today’s Russian attacks – extremely vile strikes that have continued throughout the day. I am grateful to Norway for its readiness to help. We will continue to coordinate, and we are preparing meetings and joint decisions. Thank you!

I completely agree, @andrii_sybiha. Good to talk to you today.
It’s time for stepping up the pressure on Russia, strengthening support for Ukraine, and work closely together among all who realise that the outcome of this war will define Europe’s security for decades to come.
Following yesterday's counterproductive developments, today was a day of active diplomacy for Ukraine.
President @ZelenskyyUa has been holding nonstop talks with leaders of partner countries throughout the day.
At my level, I held conversations with my counterparts from the United Kingdom @Ed_Miliband, Germany @AussenMinDE, and Norway @EspenBarthEide.
Our partners' support remains unwavering.
We discussed not only how to maintain but also how to increase pressure on the Russian war machine. We also agreed on the schedule of our upcoming contacts.
Russian terror does not stop for a single hour. Russian bombs, missiles, and drones keep hitting our cities, killing innocent civilians, including children. Almost 100 people have been killed in just one week.
This is not the time for weakness.
Next week must become a week of European strength, resolve, and increased pressure on Moscow. Together, we can end Putin's celebrations and hit his economy and military-industrial complex with full force.
I am grateful to all of our partners who share this cause for the sake of our indivisible security and a sooner peace.

Thank you, @TheHillOpinion, for publishing a joint op-ed by Canadian Ambassador @MarkDWiseman, Norwegian Ambassador @NorwayAmbUSA, and Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires @DenysSienik on the urgent need to bring home deported Ukrainian children, unlawfully detained civilians, and prisoners of war.
The September 28–29 conference in Toronto brought together 80+ delegations. 54 states and international organizations endorsed the Toronto Pledge, committing to strengthen efforts to trace those held by Russia, bring them home, and support their recovery.
We are grateful to the United States for supporting these efforts at multiple levels. Strong international cooperation is vital to securing their return and achieving a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

Met with @alexstubb and @jonasgahrstore in New York. Finland and Norway are very strong partners of ours, and I am grateful for the substantive exchange we had. Of course, first and foremost, we discussed the winter package and protecting our energy infrastructure from Russian attacks. We are working to strengthen air defense as much as possible before winter sets in and to deprive Russia of its bet on ballistic terror. I also briefed them on the talks and meetings with the American team. There is no alternative to peace. And Russia must be pressured further – through sanctions and support for Ukraine – so that it learns this too.
And today, Alex and I also signed a Drone Deal – an important step for the joint protection of our people and an even stronger partnership between our countries. We are always ready to share with our closest friends what has helped us protect lives. Thank you!
