A few more Jack Snipe pics from my new pop-up hide in Nottinghamshire. Really could be my highlight of the year so far, very satisfying when a plan comes together! Gotta say I think the first pic is one of my favourites I’ve ever taken from a context/logistical standpoint.

For many many years, I’ve wanted an opportunity to set up a little pop-up hide to see into the secretive lives of Jack Snipes. Set up at a promising looking pool in Nottinghamshire the other day, and wowzas!!!!! 3 bobbing away in front of me tonight!
Juvenile Eurasian Spoonbill on Clifton Pit, Attenborough NR this morning.

A little bit of wader passage at Mons Pool this morning, with 2 Whimbrel, 3 Black-wits and a Greenshank passing through south (along with a Tree Pipit). Also 3 Green Sands, 1 Curlew and 1 Snipe - hopefully all the exposed mud will pull something else in…

A Redstart was the highlight of a visit to Mons Pool this afternoon, elusive along the western boundary. Also a whopping 32 Oystercatchers feeding on molluscs exposed by the exceptionally low water levels, alongside 2 Common & 1 Green Sand, a Mandarin, and a family of Stonechats.

The first juvenile Caspian Gull of the season is always a delight. Not the most obvious of examples when it was sat on the River Trent and Netherfield on Monday, different story when they fly though. Really thick tail band on this one.

A smart adult Black-necked Grebe this morning at Collingham Pits on Ferry Lane Lake, the first here for a couple of years. Horrible record shot not exactly doing the bird justice….
Black-crowned night heron, honest. Flew over Tween Pond, Attenborough NR this morning 06.35. Not seen since Sunday evening when found by local Tom.

Thought about going for the Reef Heron yesterday, but decided some local birding was more appealing. Glad I didn’t go for it as I had a blast watching 5 singing Tree Pipits very close to home.
Plenty more pics on my website as usual:
