Our #OACETT team recently visited @imax in Mississauga to interview Paul Constantinou, VP of Hardware Engineering, and explore the people and technology behind some extraordinary cinematic experiences. IMAX projectors are assembled right here in Mississauga, a tangible connection between Ontario’s technical expertise and what audiences experience around the world. And the company continues to push the boundaries. Did you know that Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey became the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX film cameras? A remarkable example of technical ingenuity expanding what’s possible in storytelling. IMAX systems have been in space, under the depths of the OACETT and helping the Dark Knight chase down the Joker. For OACETT, building relationships with innovative employers like IMAX helps us understand evolving industry needs, raise the visibility of our members’ expertise and explore opportunities for learning and career development. It also helps us show the next generation where a technical career can take them. That connection to the next generation led to one of my favourite moments. When we asked Paul what advice he would give a young technician or technologist starting their career, his answer was simple: “Find something that you love and do that.” We also had a chance to speak with a few OACETT members who work behind the scenes at IMAX and make the magic happen. A sincere thank you to Paul Constantinou, Viktor Maksimowicz and the IMAX team for welcoming us and sharing their time, insights and enthusiasm.
