Marks and Spencer Spryside, bought in a cellar emergency is not bad. However I do wish the marketing department knew how to fish a fly.

Just over 9lbs or 4kg. Taking it down to give to our son’s care home tomorrow. I think it is the biggest veg I have ever grown. It’s exciting being retired.

To mark VJ Day I give you my father’s wartime compass carried across Burma. He was in the 18th Field Regiment equipped with self propelled guns. Joined up from Oxford and retired as a Lt Col in 1976.

I planted nasturtiums as companion plants for my beans. The nasturtiums attracted every cabbage white on the planet. I am very disappointed that the small birds, other insects and mammals have done SFA when it comes to controlling said caterpillars, the lazy blighters.

She has real green grass! I lived in Namibia for 3 years and my lawn looks like the Namib desert. Somerset paired with Luderitz.
