The Wren's Breath
I had a vision of this photograph about 3 weeks ago and this morning after a lot of effort all the relevant bits came together and I finally managed to photograph a wren's breath

I found this fantastic group of fly agarics on Friday but I’m skipping going in any woods today with these high winds! – at Yorkshire and The Humber, England
Fly 🪰 on fly agaric :)
Been on the look out for local Amanita muscaria for the last few weeks and today finally found some!
Such an iconic toadstool added bonus of a fly on top. – at Leeds, England
Had a great hike down in the Peak District today. Not sure why we have virtually no fly agarics around home at the moment as there was a lot today. One spot had 17 in a couple of square meters!
Not sure what had been munching on this one? Anyone know what eats them?
Felt more autumnal today on our walk this morning and definitely more fungi popping up now the ground is finally getting moist again…
Had a quick look for slime molds earlier today. When I turned a leaf I found this moth ‘The Satellite’ (Eupsilia transversa). I nearly didn’t spot it against the leaf!
Who says small brown moths can’t be beautiful?
For this one I did use the R5ii focus bracketing
Sat in a spot today and saw kingfisher, wren and then a cheeky robin came to check on me. Glad it came close as I only had my macro gear on me :)
Today I found a slime mold (Fuligo septica) sent a picture to my friend Alex Hyde who told me they pulse as they grow so fast. So I went back and did a timelapse video. OMG I had no idea! 1 is the whole slime mold and the 2nd one is at 5 * magnification!!!

Room for one more? 🦋

How many butterflies can you count?

I checked out the local beewolf population and I didn’t see anything at all so I think it’s likely they have finished for the year. Glad I managed to see them last week! Will definitely be checking this spot next year.
I went out to look for slime molds today in Yorkshire, UK and managed to photograph this tiny thing. This was taken at 5 times magnification so was very small. Stacked image that didn’t work perfectly as it was moving.
Does anyone know what it is?
There's a huge geomagnetic storm happening right now :) The aurora stats are all currently looking great and there's a really good chance of aurora from dark and there's no moonlight tonight either.
Picture was from October in 2024 in Northern Sweden.
A dream photograph for me today!
A beewolf in flight predating a honeybee and just about to drop into its nest hole (bottom left)
In the nest the paralysed bee will be sealed into a chamber with an egg. Well I’m guessing you have seen “Alien”…

Starlings 🙂
Went to see how the local starling murmuration is getting on
There was no sparrowhawk action so started on some more action ideas
Probably a bit of marmite idea!
A few more shots of the amazing colony of beewolfs I saw yesterday
Wish I’d know about these earlier in the year as this is right at the end of the season for these but will defo head back there as soon as there’s another warmish day
I photographed an insect today I’ve wanted to see for years, the beewolf! A species which only came to the UK in the 80’s and is mainly distributed to the south. Well it seems they are moving north (like many species) as this was close to Leeds
Zooming into a robber flies eye detail 🙂
I have taken a few different photographs at higher magnifications and the zoomed into via a video app.
Does it work?
There’s a slight change in light and exposure between the images as the conditions changed during the morning!
Went to see how the starling murmuration is developing at Fairburn this evening. Definitely a few birds there now (but not a big murmuration yet by any means). Had a few brief views of sparrowhawk too...
