This from the man who opposed the gold standard, defended central banking, lobbied for floating exchange rates. As a result since 1971 we’ve had perpetual inflation—a government caused affordability problem. “Reform” the Fed? No. Abolish it.
“You can’t reform any institution from inside because people don’t act against their own interest. The only way you reform institutions is by competition from the outside.” — Milton Friedman

I pride myself as someone who will talk with people with whom I disagree. I have been critical of those who dismiss their opponents as either dumb or dishonest. In the case of Hoppe, it is so clear what he said and meant, that anyone defending him, or denying his meaning, is really not worth talking to.

What an evil bastard.
Dr. Hans-Hermann Hoppe criticizes any comparison between Gaza and the Holocaust, citing the lack of forensic evidence and the nature of the Nuremberg trials in contrast to the videos of Israeli criminality. “Nothing like this happened in WWI. Nothing like this happened in WWII.”

No surprise that AOC supports this authoritarian. A vote count tells you who won an election, not what the men who were elected may do. AOC, Bernie and others like them think it is a blank check to do as they please. A country is free when its government is limited to protecting individual rights. Brazil's majority chose a man who rejects that limit just as AOC does. Lula came out of the metalworkers' union, built the Workers' Party on class struggle, and co-founded the Foro de Sao Paulo with Fidel Castro in 1990. His fundamental premise, like AOC's, is that wealth exists to be redistributed and the man who produced it has no prior claim on it. The record after his third term: - Gross public debt at 82.9% of GDP. - A deficit of 9.48% of GDP once interest is counted. - A central bank rate of 13.75%, among the highest real interest costs in the world, paid by anyone who borrows to build or buy. On speech, one Supreme Court justice took X offline for the entire country for 40 days in 2024. Lula defended it. The same court blocked Rumble in 2025 and now holds platforms liable for user posts with no court order required. A Brazilian who wants to be heard needs the state's permission.
Yesterday, Brazil showed the world that the will of the people is stronger than the authoritarians who try to suppress it. Congratulations President @LulaOficial and congratulations Brazil.

It is time for a change. Time for a change from treating rhetoric as a substitute for reality, where "work every day to make this country better" means another round of programs paid for with borrowed money. Time for facts and reason instead of slogans. The facts: $40 trillion in debt, $2 trillion added this year alone, and both parties still promising more. The candidates you're endorsing offer government-run healthcare and bigger spending, which is more of what produced the crisis we find ourselves in and which people like Obama want to ignore in favor of their political religion. You told us this week that your Iran deal kept the peace while the regime hid its weapons archive and enriched toward a bomb. Words don't restrain dictatorships and words don't balance budgets. A real change would be a government that protects rights, spends within its means, and leaves producers free. You and everyone on your ballot is offering the opposite.
It's time for a change. Vote for leaders like @AbdulElSayed and @JocelynBenson who will work every day to make this country better.

Technically, government has a monopoly on the RETALIATORY use of force and is prohibited from INITIATING force against peaceful, rights-respecting citizens. This is an objective principle of proper governing. Rights-respecting governments may not initiate "violence" against anyone except in retaliation for its prior initiation. The extent to which a government violates this principle is the extent of its illegitimacy and criminality.
Replying to @Rothmus
Those who are opposed to corporations and favor government do not realize that government is simply the largest, most monopolistic corporation of all and it has a monopoly on violence.
