> Venom mogged Superman > Morbius mogged Supergirl > Madame Web mogged Clayface All that talk of competing with the MCU but the DCU’s competition is the Sony-verse 🥀😭

He said the quiet part aloud. A game of access. That's how it's handled behind the scenes.

When you think the competition is the MCU, but in reality, your competition is the Sony-verse 😔
“Clayface” arrived on the lower end of the studio’s expectations of $25 million to $35 million. The antihero adaptation earned another $19 million overseas for a global tally of $43 million. variety.com/2026/film/box-of…

June 2016 Rick Famuyiwa on the Justice League S.T.A.R Labs set, as he was getting ready to shoot The Flash in late 2016 for a 2018 release alongside Aquaman DC Films regime killed the movie 3 months later because they wanted to make Flashpoint, so they can soft reboot the DCEU

#Clayface debuts with $24M stateside Like James Gunn’s previous DC releases, international cash lower at $19M for $43M debut against $44M budget Will need to hold extremely well over the next several weekends to have a shot at breaking even

It didn't recoup its entire production budget though. That'll be when it reaches $90M. Then it'll have to climb to recoup its marketing budget.
DCU is the only universe where a film can have recoup its entire production budget opening weekend...have metrics like a 3.8 on Letterboxd, A- Cinema Score, & a 75/94 split on Rotten Tomatoes and still be called a failure

It's so funny that a small but vocal minority convinced WB to move on from the Snyderverse when it's clear they can't fill theater seats

You literally have Birds Of Prey. That movie made $200M on a $80M budget. Hamada didn't pursue a sequel and that guy was trying to make Wonder Twins. When CBMs reach that $100M-$200M box office range it's considered IP waste.

Yup. Gunn & Safran are in charge since 2022 where Black Adam was clowned on every corner of the Hollywood press for making $400M paving the way for their job. Their DCU crowd in 2026 is bringing around half of that crowd (probably less with inflation). Yikes.
Clay didn't slay. WB's CLAYFACE is the #1 movie in North America w/ a debut of $24M, but the DC brand itself is in a freefall. You know what really sucks: even MORBIUS opened with $39M.

It's all cope from corporate shills Doomsday is going to outgross Supergirl and Clayface worldwide totals with its China opening weekend alone Making a Clayface movie is playing hide and seek to keep your job instead of keeping up with the competition
The budget isn’t really a point worth defending in regards to CLAYFACE. Listen, even MORBIUS debuted with $39M. CLAYFACE, which is drawn from one of the biggest IP brands in the world, dropped with $15M less than Sony's horror spinoff. A lower budget may limit the financial damage, but in no way does it create audience demand. And that's the point. Choosing CLAYFACE as the DCU’s third film was the misstep. Oh, and making 3 out of 4 set in the SUPERMAN universe. Yes, the DC brand is in trouble. What's new?

"The budget was $31.4M, not $43.8M! That means the break even point is $68.6M which will be HUGE" The state of DC 😂😂😂

I really think you should just speak to @ParamountPics bosses Dana Goldberg & Josh Greenstein after partnering with them on Heart Of The Beast since Gunn & Safran have had the DC job for just under 4 years and clearly have no intention of releasing your cut. #ReleaseTheAyerCut
10 years already. Incredible.

This is disastrous. The global audience has rejected the DCU. Gunn & Safran creative & business tendencies do not translate to a global audience. It is flat out ignored.
DC’s CLAYFACE is silly putty overseas—just $4.3M Friday in 76 markets on over 13k screens.

After Gunn's egregious string of million-bleed flops, Gunn's DC has entered the same doom-mode Hamada's DC was in after Shazam. Spend less to lose less.
So it made less than Morbius, but that's ok because it cost less? So it's now acceptable to make less? This sounds like mega copium. The 3rd movie in the DCEU opened with $133.6M and now we're scraping around for 75% fresh and $3M... literally what are DC doing

So stupid and so obvious. Why not make an original horror & put it on your slate as WB if you're not aiming to capitalize on the DC brand. Making Clayface is taking a potential release spot from other DC titles so it has to OVERPEFORM like low budget Deadpool/Joker. Simple
