Today I had the privilege to participate in the #BioCap Project Communication Induction and Stakeholder Co-Creation Workshop, a dynamic platform bringing together scientists, communication specialists, policymakers, media practitioners, and other key stakeholders committed to advancing agricultural innovation in Rwanda.
The discussions strongly highlighted that science alone is not enough effective communication is essential. Strategic communication plays a critical role in strengthening public understanding, promoting transparency, and building trust in biotechnology and science-based agricultural innovations.
Through collaborative dialogue, participants explored how stronger partnerships between researchers, communicators, institutions, and media can ensure that accurate, accessible, and impactful information reaches farmers, policymakers, and the wider public.
As stakeholders continues to invest in agricultural transformation, strengthening communication around agricultural technologies will be key to supporting the adoption of improved crop varieties and sustainable farming solutions.
Proud to be part of a generation that is not only advancing agricultural innovation but also amplifying the voices and stories behind it.

Today it was a huge honor for me to be part of the Communication Induction Workshop convened under the #BioCap Project, which brought together partners to align the 2026 workplan and strengthen Rwanda’s Biotechnology Communication Strategy.
During the workshop, I had the opportunity to share my perspective as a potato farmer and agriculture content creator, highlighting the important role that we can play in communicating information about agricultural biotechnology.
As someone who works closely with farmers and also shares agricultural knowledge online, I believe communication is a powerful tool to bridge the gap between scientific innovations and farmers in the field.
In my contribution, I emphasized that When farmers see real examples and understand how innovations like biotechnology can help address challenges such as diseases like late blight in potatoes, they become more confident in adopting solutions that improve productivity and food security.
Through my work as Communicator, I remain committed to connecting farmers with reliable agricultural information, translating complex scientific ideas into simple messages that farmers can understand and trust.
When farmers are well informed, they are empowered to make decisions that improve their farms, their livelihoods, and the future of agriculture in Rwanda.

BREAKING NEWS TO POTATOES FARMERS IN RWANDA: BIOTECH POTATO HARVEST OFFERS NEW HOPE AGAINST LATE BLIGHT DISEASE
For years, potato farmers across Rwanda have lived with the same fear season after season: late blight. A disease that spreads rapidly, wipes out healthy fields, and forces farmers to spray fungicides repeatedly just to save part of their harvest. The cost is high, not only in money, but also in time, health, and environmental impact, leaving many farmers trapped in a cycle of chemical dependence and uncertain yields.
Then, in @MusanzeDistrict, a different story began to emerge.
Researchers successfully completed the final harvest of biotech potato trials ((Victoria and Ndamira), In these trial plots, potatoes showed stronger resistance where late blight usually dominates, offering a glimpse of a more resilient future for potato farming.
These harvested potatoes signal the possibility of reduced fungicide use, lower production costs, and more reliable harvests for farmers. Each tuber lifted from the soil carries hope, hope for healthier crops, improved incomes, and farming systems that are both productive and sustainable.
This progress is part of a broader national effort to use agricultural biotechnology to tackle long-standing production challenges. Through a structured, multi-year program led by national agricultural institutions, Rwanda is working to improve key crops such as potato, maize, and cassava by developing varieties that can withstand diseases, pests, and climate stress. The goal is clear: increase productivity while reducing risks and input costs for farmers
As the harvest concludes, a new chapter opens, focused on evaluation, farmer engagement, and long-term adoption. This milestone reinforces Rwanda’s commitment to using science and innovation to protect farmers, strengthen food security, and transform agriculture for generations to come.
