Techniquement il vole encore à Nancy qui a récupéré la mission de transformation machine, justement dans l’escadron dont provient le 2000D qui s’est écrasé (EC 2/3 Champagne). Je pense que sa confusion vient de là.

October 22 is a bad day for British aviation - This lesser-known accident had many similarities with the Staines Air Disaster, which occurred more than a decade later and would become the worst aircraft accident in the UK (not counting terrorist attacks such as Lockerbie) ➡️ October 22, 1963: a BAC 1-11 prototype crashes on a test flight in Wiltshire (England). All 7 aboard die. While assessing handling, jet entered a “deep stall” from which recovery was impossible. It was the first accident attributed to this phenomenon, peculiar to T-Tail jets. Among the victims was Mike Lithgow OBE, one of Britain´s most renowned test pilots. His CV included taking part in the air attack that sunk the battleship Bismarck during WW2 and holder of the World Absolute Air Speed Record in 1953 This date is also a dark one for UK´s aviation: a BEA Airliner was lost in a midair collision with an airliner in Italy, along with a WWII midair collision that, by mere chance was caught on a photograph ➡️1958: Nettuno Tragedy (Italy): BEA Flight 142, a Viscount, collides with an Italian AF F-86 Sabre over Nettuno. All 31 on the airliner die, fighter pilot survived. No blame was attributed, but inquiry stated Flight 142 strayed from his airway into a military area. ➡️ 1944: two USAAF B-17s collide in midair over Thurleigh (Bedfordshire, England). All 19 aboard both aircraft die. Accident occurred over heavy fog, when the aircraft were returning from a mission in Germany.

Correction on this one; - First, a correct picture of the type (I had the wrong one uploaded) - Second, one of the pilots perished and the other crewman is missing (I have no info, at the time of writing, if he was located or not) Also, accident site is between Domèvre-en-Haye and Tremblecourt, Meurthe-et-Moselle, north of Nancy. Thanks to @FlySafeFlySafe for the corrections

What´s your earliest memory of an air accident? For me, this one: the only airplane accident I “saw” live, when I was 9. I still recall Sunday afternoon and loads of people on the shore – including our family - trying to see what had happened, after hearing reports of the accident on the radio. The aircraft´s tail was visible above the water for some days. (Later it ended up in a local scrapyard) Details came much later... 1995: a German AF C-160 [50+43] crashes off Ponta Delgada (Azores, Portugal); all 7 aboard die. On the take-off run, the plane failed to lift off and plunged into the sea after leaving the runway. AFAIK, the accident report isn´t public: the aircraft likely had a mechanical issue between V1 and V2; the crew could not stop in time. Accident occurred on a stopover: aircraft was on its way to Canada to supply troops on exercises

➡️ Millon Air Flight 306, a cargo B-707, crashed in Manta (Ecuador) OTD in 1996. 23 on the ground and all 4 aboard die. On take-off, jet had uncontained failure on #3 engine. Crew were able to take-off but shortly after plane lost altitude and went down on an urban area. Other major occurrences from this day below, including a very mediatized terrorist incident in Argentina and a B-737 accident in Africa. More on these below ⬇️ ➡️ 1975: Aerolíneas Argentinas 706, a B-737, makes an emergency landing in Santa Fé (Argentina). All aboard survive. Flight was hijacked by Montoneros as part of “Operation Primacia”. Passengers were released, hijackers were escaping to Brazil when jet ran out of fuel. ➡️2005: Bellview Airlines Flight 210, a B-737, crashes in Ogun (Nigeria), all 117 aboard die. Aircraft crashed on a procedural turn shortly after departure from Lagos. Cause was undetermined. Likely factors include Captain´s condition, aircraft´s maintenance and weather. ➡️2009: Divi Divi Air Flight 014, a Britten Islander, ditched near Bonaire (Caribbean Netherlands). The pilot was the sole fatality from 11 aboard. Plane suffered engine failure. Pilot did not return immediately and was later forced to make an emergency landing. ➡️ 1942: a Lufthansa Ju-52 crashes in Novi Sad (Yugoslavia). All 17 aboard die. Enroute in bad weather, plane hit Mt. Fruška Gora at 1200 ft. Inquiry pointed crew received incorrect weather data, specifically concerning altitude of cloud base.

US Marines CH-53 crashed in Mindoro island (Philippines) OTD in 1977. 24 of 37 aboard die. Helicopter was taking part on an amphibious exercise when it plummeted off a cliff and fell from a height of around 400 ft, into the jungle below. More accidents from October 21 below, including the Soviet Air Force showing its level, one of the worst air disasters in Greece; likely the most bizarre civilian shotdown in history and another UFO incident in England ➡️ 1989: a Turkish Government BN-2 on a photo mapping flight is shotdown by Syrian Mig-21 fighters over Hatay (Turkey). All 5 aboard die. The military pilots had disregarded orders and the Syrian Government apologized to the victims of the "painful incident". Aircraft was operated by the “Tapu Kadastro Genel Müdürlügü”, roughly translated as “General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadaster” ➡️ 1972: Olympic Airways Flight 506, a YS-11, crashes in Athens (Greece). 37 of 53 aboard die. On approach at night and bad weather, plane hit sea 3 mi from shore in CFIT. Based on available evidence, investigators could not determine cause: visibility was likely a factor. ➡️ 2009: Azza Transport Flight 2241, a cargo B-707, crashes in Sharjah (UAE), all 6 aboard die. On take-off, #4 engine core cowl fell, providing erroneous info to crew, who lost control of jet attempting to return. Inquiry found severe maintenance issues with the operator. ➡️1987: Soviet AF Kabul Airport Collision (Afghanistan), involving a An-12 and a Mi-24, a total of 24 dead. On take off run, plane hit helicopter. Inquiry pointed ATC issues: both flights were assigned the same number and were cleared for takeoff almost simultaneously. ➡️ 1952: Little Rissington UFO incident (Gloucestershire, England). A RAF Meteor, based in L. Rissington airbase, on a training flight, reports sighting of 3 “Flying Saucers”, confirmed by ground radar. Two jets are scrambled to intercept the UFO´s but fail to make contact. ➡️2016: a Skol Mi-8 crashes in Yamal (Russia). 19 of 22 aboard die. Accident occurred attempting an emergency landing at night, following a fuel problem. Inquiry noted crew actions, issues with the airline organization and others. ➡️ 1948: a French Air Force B-26 on a transport flight crashes off Melilla (Morocco) All 17 aboard die. Aircraft went down on the Mediterranean, some 9 miles from ap des Troys-Fourches,. More info on this occurrence is appreciated.

No, no crash landing: this was intentional This video often goes viral as "CRASH LANDING". This maneuver, albeit risky, was not improvised. Interflug donated an Il-62 for a memorial in a field, and they moved the jet there by landing (which they did safely - the crew was experienced, studied the best way to do it, etc etc... )
