Old registers, whiteboard schedules, and a binder nobody can find. Sound familiar? We see you, parish offices. This is OpenChurch, and we're so glad to finally share a first look.

Under the hall kitchen sink, or wherever the first aid kit lives: open it this week. Restock the bandages, toss anything expired, and check the dates on the AED pads and battery. Write the check date on the lid. Christmas Eve is the wrong night to find out.

Draft on one side, live on the other. Parish staff edit the church's web page in OpenChurch, publish when it's ready, and can take it down or bring back the last published version. Visitors only ever see what was published, never a half-done edit.

Someone deletes the wrong family on a busy Monday. It happens. In OpenChurch, a removed member, gift, group, or bulletin is kept on an Archive page for a while. Anyone on staff can see it's still there, and an admin can put it back.

21 years ago today, Dresden's Lutheran Frauenkirche was consecrated again. Left in ruins after 1945, it was rebuilt with 8,425 of its original stones. The gilded cross on its dome was hand-forged by a London silversmith whose father flew in the 1945 raid. frauenkirche-dresden.de/rebu…

When did your parish last ask disabled members and carers what gets in their way? The Church in Wales is asking nationwide through November, aiming for people "not simply to enter the building, but to participate fully." Worth borrowing. churchinwales.org.uk/en/news…

Today the Episcopal Church remembers Maryam of Qidun, a 4th-century monastic near Edessa. Tradition tells how, after she left in shame, her uncle Abraham searched two years to bring her home with mercy, not blame. A good day to reach out to someone your parish misses.

Collect the usher count sheets from every Sunday in October and enter them this week, before they wander off. Year-end reports ask for attendance, and a missing month is hard to piece together in February. A plain sheet per service with the date, time, and number is plenty.

$40 a week, starting in January. That's what the pledge card says, and it's often where the record stops. In OpenChurch, a pledge sits next to the gifts that came in under the same email during its dates, so the office can see how it's going without adding anything up.

St Luke's in Swarcliffe, East Leeds, held its last service on Christmas Day 2011. This fall it opened for Sunday worship again, at the heart of a new parish. Rev. Hannah Jones felt "the church should be lit up again." churchofengland.org/media/st…

The volunteer bringing communion or a Christmas visit is working from whatever list the office gave them. Go through the homebound list this week: confirm each address and phone, note anyone who moved to a care home or passed away, and match every name to a visitor.

"I'd like to help with the food pantry sometime" is easy to say after church and easy to lose. The OpenChurch public page has a small Get connected card for that. Someone picks a ministry and leaves a name, and it waits for staff to say yes before they're added to the group.

Since 2007, Ghanaian Catholics in North Texas have held Mass in Twi. Now they have their own parish, St. Matthew Ayariga in Arlington, the first Ghanaian national Catholic parish in the U.S. "The Catholic faith is truly universal," Bishop Olson wrote. northtexascatholic.org/news/…

If the church heat hasn't run since March, turn it on some weekday this week and let it run a few hours. Listen for banging, walk every room to see it actually warms, and book the service call now. Repair techs get busy once the first cold snap hits.

The person running slides at the back of church mostly needs two things: what's happening now, and what's next. OpenChurch has a quiet full-screen view of the service plan for that. One item at a time in large type, the next few along the bottom, and a tap moves it along.

Easter 2027 falls on March 28, with Ash Wednesday on Feb 10. Put those, Holy Week, and any spring confirmation or first communion dates on next year's hall calendar now, before outside groups start asking about spring. Holding a date is easier than moving one.
24
Write the Thanksgiving trip down once. In OpenChurch, a member's page can hold the dates they'll be away, and if someone later puts them on the schedule for one of those days, a small note says they're out. It doesn't block anything. It just saves a phone call.

Tomorrow is 40 years since St. John Paul II gathered religious leaders in Assisi to pray for peace. Pope Leo, still recovering, asked us to join them in spirit: "May the Lord inspire choices of dialogue and peace!" Is your parish praying for peace? vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/…

Someone calls in December asking when Christmas Eve services are, and the bulletin, website, and voicemail all say something different. Settle the Christmas and New Year schedule now, write it once, and paste that exact text everywhere, including the sign out front.

Who counted Sunday's collection, and did anyone check it? In OpenChurch, one person enters the count and a second staff member confirms it while signed in as themselves. If nobody else is around, it can go in as a single count, and it stays marked not verified.
