It's all about money. "The decision to introduce LTN schemes was made by the previous administration before I was elected as mayor. The council’s budget is predicated, partially of course, on that decision, and I do not feel that I am in a position to reverse it.” via @Telegraph
Local residents don't want the South Norwood LTNs. Neither do local councillors nor the MP. The officers' report shows no evidence they've achieved any of their objectives. Now the Mayor's admitted they're only in place to generate revenue. This is not OK. telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/02…
"These [LTN] schemes are not benefiting the wider community at all with no proven environmental benefits...It is a money raising exercise by a bankrupt and desperate council." Jason Perry, Dec 2021. Two years later he waved them through. What changed? londonnewsonline.co.uk/news/…
Reminder - @yourcroydon's decision to go ahead with 6 of 7 "LTNs" isn't the result of solid evidence of the benefits. The officers' report revealed the original objectives for the schemes were either not met, or not proven to be met due to inadequate data croydoncc.wordpress.com/2024…
"These schemes are having a huge detrimental impact on our communities...these schemes should not be enforced on communities...I would like to remove all the LTNs on the 1st day after I become Mayor...I do not want Croydon to be dependent on fining residents." Jason Perry Apr 22.
And so the people of South Norwood are left with "LTNs" they don't want, local cllrs don't want, the MP doesn't want, the Mayor wanted to get rid of & council officers can't justify. All because no one can afford to remove them. Public policy enacted by mistake. Brilliant work 👏

On Healthy Neighbourhoods, @HermansSermons Shadow Cab Member asked Tory Exec Mayor “listening to Croydon” Perry for the rationale behind his FlipFlop making LTN schemes permanent in direct contradiction with his manifesto pledge to do away with LTNs 👀 🤷🏽♀️🤷♂️🤔

Open Our Roads campaign challenge recommendation going to Croydon Cabinet TONIGHT re LTNs croydoncc.wordpress.com/2024… via @OpenOurRoads
Not surprisingly, @yourcroydon's report calling for their "LTNs" to be made permanent isn't fit for purpose. We can only hope that someone at tonight's Cabinet Meeting has the intelligence to ask some serious questions - newsfromcrystalpalace.wordpr…
“What happens when ideology and wishful thinking trump evidence-based policy? The answer, in case-study form, is low traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs)” - @andrewellson in today’s @thetimes. It's time for an apology from the @yourcroydon officials responsible - thetimes.co.uk/article/why-l…
Today’s @thetimes article by @andrewellson quotes @NAOorguk report criticising “poor implementation of [LTN] schemes in places where plans had not been developed before the pandemic and local communities were not adequately consulted”. In other words, the @yourcroydon playbook.
In the wake of Sunday’s @Telegraph story where TfL finally admitted that they had to re-phase Crystal Palace traffic lights “in response to the Croydon "LTNs" increasing the flow on Church Road”, serious questions remain - telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/04… 1/5
Why were Croydon councillors & officers happy to sacrifice Church Road, an important street in Crystal Palace's shopping area to protect Auckland Rd, a road that they admit they had no data on to assess success or failure of their scheme? 4/5
Given that TfL now acknowledge that the Auckland Rd “LTN” diverted traffic & delayed local buses - and that they informed Croydon Council at the time - is it not time for @Stuart_King & the officers responsible for this scheme to do the right thing & admit they got it wrong? 5/5

Course it had to be Crystal Palace and South Norwood🤦♂️
Mindlessly closing roads and calling them LTNs is not the answer to greener communities as evidenced below.
A combination of traffic calming measures, green transport and smart design of public spaces to incentivise 🚶♂️+🚴♂️
At long last TfL admit what Crystal Palace residents knew all along - the Auckland Rd “LTN” simply diverted traffic. This is what happens when local councillors make terrible decisions and cross their fingers. Shame on those responsible. @Telegraph telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/04…
Still no apology from the small group of pro LTN campaigners called @AucklandRoadSBS who published wildly inaccurate data which sought to mislead their neighbours, local councillors & Croydon Council officers during the LTN consultation process. Disappointing, but not surprising.
Still no word from @AucklandRoadSBS on the ludicrous stats they shared with local residents & Croydon Council. Official DfT figures now show a 4% rise in traffic on minor roads in London between 2013 & 2019. According to SBS however, one road in London bucked that trend. 1/3
It's now over 300 days since you were elected. When will you be acting on your pre-election pledge to remove the LTNs that you believe "are having a huge detrimental impact on our communities" @JasonForCroydon?
HNY @JasonForCroydon @CllrScottRoche. In the run up to last year’s election you said you couldn’t remove the LTNs on day 1 - but you would do it. It’s been 243 days. You admit the LTNs “are having a huge detrimental impact on our communities”. How long do residents have to wait?

ALT Excerpt from an interview with Jason Perry prior to the May 5th 2022 Croydon Mayoral election. In this interview the now Mayor stated his strong opposition to the LTN schemes in Croydon and acknowledged that they were having “a huge detrimental impact on our communities”. He also stated: “I would like to remove all the LTNs on the first day after I become Mayor…however, owing to how Labour has constructed their budget this is simply NOT possible.” The full interview can be read here - https://openourroads.org/ltn-chn-news/mayor-jason-perry-and-croydons-ltns.html
