🚀 A milestone for OpenRSI: 3 OpenRSI agent-generated optimizations have been merged upstream into SGLang-Omni!
All three PRs underwent rigorous maintainer code review and verification by the SGLang-Omni team.
😉 Real code. Proven improvements. Lasting impact for the open-source community. More to come!
👏 Huge thanks to @zhuofengli96475 and @GenAI_is_real for leading this effort, and to the SGLang team @sgl_project for their support and collaboration!

Really impressed by how professional and efficient this collaboration with @OpenRSI has been.
The OpenRSI team showed very strong execution, and these three upstreamed optimizations also gave us a useful glimpse of what software agents can already do under a strong supervision loop.
With clear tasks, isolated evaluation, maintainer review, and measurable performance targets, the agents were able to satisfy most of what we care about in both code quality and systems performance.
Human supervision is still essential today. But the encouraging part is that much of this supervision can be systematized. Good documentation, explicit constraints, reproducible benchmarks, and clear acceptance criteria can dramatically reduce how often a human needs to step in.
That may be one of the most important lessons here: making agents more autonomous is not only about making the model smarter. It is also about making the environment easier to supervise.
We are excited to keep working with @OpenRSI and gradually move toward tasks with weaker supervision.
That is where things may get really interesting.

Toward Fully Autonomous RSI
Today: RSI in constrained environments with human guidance.
Long-term Vision: Fully autonomous RSI across the entire AI research lifecycle.
Grateful to our contributors: @zhuofengli96475, @GenAI_is_real, @wenhaocha1, @David_Han66, @yuetai12575, @YichenFeng_, @AaronTian_CI, @CaraLi72918 and @sgl_project. Thank you for making this milestone possible!
As AI systems enter a recursive self-improvement loop, the central question is whether it can systematically move beyond human-designed methods to genuinely extend the scientific and intelligence frontier.
What’s missing is a neutral, open standard for evaluating these capabilities in real, production-scale intelligence development.
Today, we’re releasing OpenRSI-Index v0.1: evaluating whether AI can recursively improve itself and push the boundaries of intelligence and science, on production-scale clusters with 1k GPUs.
We turn fully open-source projects into autoresearch environments, with agent trajectories lasting 60+ hours. Building v0.1 took 100K+ H100-hours.
We’re building an ecosystem with and for the research community: let RSI benefit everyone, and let everyone shape RSI together.
We invite task contributors and compute partners to build this open benchmark with us - all contributors will be included as paper authors.

5/ Call for contributors
Want to challenge frontier agents with your own research? Contribute a task.
RSI-Anything, our contribution pipeline, walks you through the research question, baseline, evaluation, and budget in about 1 hour of conversation, then packages it into a runnable task. Your contribution becomes the exam.
Contributors receive paper authorship on OpenRSI-Index. We are also recruiting Domain Leads to own new domains across the foundation-model stack and important verticals like medical, legal, 3D vision, and scientific ML.
3/ Initial Results
On Marin-Scaling-Ladder, agents must autonomously propose, implement, and evaluate new optimizers across six model scales (550M to 2.5B) against the Marin baseline.
• Codex (GPT-5.6) tested 17 hypotheses, discovering PSPR, which balances the strength of matrix updates across directions (+0.60% avg. improvement over AdamH across all six rungs).
• Claude Code (Opus 5) discovered RMBT, which scales each hidden unit’s update relative to its weights (+0.35% avg. improvement over AdamH).

2/ Task Samples
What happens when agents run full model-development pipelines on 1k GPUs?
Our preview features three signature tasks, each a full lane of real model development:
• Marin-Scaling-Ladder (pre-training): 18,432 H100-hours per run
• Qwen-122B-RL-Merge (post-training): 20,864 H100-hours per run
• GPIC Leaderboard (vision-gen): 5,815 H100-hours per run
Ten mid-scale tasks (Molmo2-Pointing, Isaac Lab, MolmoWeb, ReasonIR, MInference, ACE, and more) ranging from agents, vision, mlsys and robotics, with new domains coming soon. Everything is open: tasks, harnesses, verifiers, and full agent trajectories.

AI progress is limited not only by compute and data, but by the bandwidth of human insight.
The core ambition of RSI is to alleviate this bottleneck: by allowing agents to scale hypothesis generation and implementation, we can sweep a vastly larger method space than humans can explore alone.
Evaluating whether these loops can systematically surpass current methods is exactly what OpenRSI-Index is built for.
Research is never zero-sum: as agents handle the heavy lifting in the research loop, researchers are super-leveraged and get more room to chase crazier, paradigm-shifting ideas.
