‼️SUPER HOT TAKE WARNING ‼️ I think YouTube should just do away with the YTPP in the sense of the ad rev share deal. If companies want a creator to rep them let them do it directly via sponsorships. Much like TV ads help pay for the platform that has allowed people to host tons of huge ass files and made available to a global audience FOR FREE. And without having to worry about all the extra “ad friendly” restrictions it frees up actual creators to be CREATIVE. Keep the things like able to offer Memberships, receive Super Chats/Tips, promote merch, etc. And have a better way to facilitate creators getting noticed by brands to do organic sponsored content. Making content especially good content is not a means to earn passive income doing bare minimum labor. Until the 2010s most people making art, videos, animations, music, podcasts, etc didn’t even think about any financial gain from doing it and sharing it online as platforms didn’t really have a means of paying anyone anything let alone even think they should. And as such the people putting out content were generally actually passionate about their crafts and doing it because it is their thing and just sharing it with others to enjoy and build community was more than enough. Grifters and such were incredibly rare and when found pretty quickly shunned. If you want to earn steady income doing basic labor go to Indeed, Jobseeker, etc list all your skills and credentials and then you will see job offerings that desire what you have to offer. The world needs more people in the actual physical workforce than putting out brainrot slop all over the internet. Being inherently creative is kinda key to the whole “content creator” schtick and at this point it truly seems like most people either don’t know the meaning of the word or what creativity even actually is at its core. You know why “great masters” of their crafts like Van Gogh, Kubrick, and Prince are viewed as such? Because they could do things the average person can’t with their minds and people appreciated being able to consume their gifts. Not every human can be or is that type of being. And there is no shame in just being a consumer because you inherently just aren’t built to create and innovate. I have more respect for the janitors and fry cooks in the world than the thousands of cookie cutter influencers and uncreative “creators” flooding platforms with mindless junk yet feel entitled and expect to be paid more than enough to live. And now with the perception of easy passive income such as ad rev on YouTube finding the actual passionate creative people is like mining for gold in endless lumps of sewage because so many people’s inherent greed and laziness makes them think they’re entitled to wealth without actually doing anything of substance. Remember the phrase “starving artist”? It was actually a thing legitimately. You truly had to sacrifice a lot to pursue anything creative and it wasn’t unheard of for 4 artists to share a 2 room flat in a war zone of a neighborhood because they wanted to dedicate their time to their craft knowing the risks. And most of society openly mocked and scoffed at such people because they couldn’t fathom willingly giving up comfort and potential luxuries. And now the same people who would have scoffed at and mocked the creative people from pre-2000s are now posting tips and hacks for making bank on YouTube doing bare minimum schlock. So yeah end the ad rev share in the YTPP 🤷‍♀️
