ALT Osbourn High School was recognized by the Virginia Board of Education with an Exemplar Award for Continuous Improvement. Osbourn was selected for the award based on its increases in graduation rates and decreases in dropout rates. Osbourn High School improved from a Graduation and Completion Index (GCI) of 79.2% to a GCI of 90.3% and reduced the dropout rate from 15.65% to 7.3%. These improvements were due to targeted efforts to provide pathways and options for students to keep them in school and on the path to graduation. According to the Virginia Department of Education, recognition in the Exemplar Awards program is one of the highest achievements a school can receive in the Commonwealth. Dr. Lisa Coons, Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction, applauded the collaborative efforts of school staff, students, and the community, emphasizing the positive educational outcomes for all students.
