Both the Brewers and Rays have sat idle for at least 15 of the last 25 days. @MLB stacking substandard series in an ever expanding postseason format is almost certainly bad for the sport, and it's probably time they at least consider doing something radically different.
The MLB playoffs have been boring. @MattGross87 has a radical solution: turn October into a pennant race.

The Boston Red Sox are stuck and @KeaganStiefel has tasked himself with analyzing which players can be part of the turnaround and which should be shown the door. First up: the most polarizing player in the organization, Jarren Duran overthemonster.com/red-sox-a…

The Sox’s walk-off win against the Giants simultaneously represented everything that got the team back into the mix as well as the issues that knocked them right out of the mix again a few weeks later. My latest with @OverTheMonster 😎
"The walk-off on August 22 was sensational, but summer effectively ended once Eli White slid across the plate. We just didn’t know it at the time." @FitzyMoPena on the game that represented the last of the 2026 Red Sox magic. overthemonster.com/red-sox-a…

What if you needed losses in there to get to 7 games? 1978 Game 163 (this is cheating, Bucky Dent) 2013 ALCS (bullpen cop) 2018 World Series (18 innings) 2021 ALCS (Laz Diaz) 1986 ALCS (Dave Henderson) 1975 World Series (Carlton Fisk) 2004 ALCS W (Comeback Complete)
We're doing a fun exercise @OverTheMonster today where we try and create the best Red Sox 7-Game postseason series using the franchise history. But there's two limitations: 1) Each selection within your best 7-Game series must correspond to the actual game it was during the series played. (So you can’t use a Game 5 and place it at Game 1 or Game 7 or whatever.) 2) You can only use one game per series, so you have to dip into seven different series to create the full list. (This means you’re going to have to make some hard decisions when it comes to the 2004 ALCS.) Here's my list: Game 1: 2004 World Series Game 2: 2013 ALCS Game 3: 2003 ALDS Game 4: 2004 ALCS Game 5: 2008 ALCS Game 6: 1975 World Series Game 7: 2007 ALCS (see the title of the article below) If anybody would like to include their submissions here (will check both replies and quote tweets), I'll include them in the tally.

Can you put together the ultimate 7-game series for the Red Sox? @MattGross87 gave it a shot and learned something interesting: The Red Sox haven't really played a great Game 7 in their entire history. overthemonster.com/red-sox-c…

"Sox brass had their annual “Yeah, we lost” press conference yesterday. Sam Kennedy was joined by Craig Breslow and Chad Tracy to answer the question that Hilary Rodham once famously asked about a decade ago: What happened?" From @FitzyMoPena overthemonster.com/red-sox-c…

Jackson Chourio, who played hero in Milwaukee yesterday, saw the final few months of his 2025 season play out remarkably akin to Roman Anthony's final few months of 2026. The similarities are so striking, they even warm my cold, black heart a bit. My latest @OverTheMonster 👇

Sonny Gray wanted to keep the ball in game two, but didn't get the chance. I tried to get to the bottom of what numbers the Red Sox might have been looking at when they made the decision

"You don’t fire your manager in April and come all the way back just to bow out early in the playoffs. The Red Sox have had a magical run, and it’s going to continue. The Boston Red Sox are going to win the 2026 World Series. Enjoy the ride." -@Jake3Roy overthemonster.com/red-sox-a…

I wrote this back in June on @OverTheMonster regarding Anthony's injury, but most of it is unfortunately just as relevant today. I feel like I'm watching multiple Red Sox seasons crash down at once with the news of the last 24 hours. overthemonster.com/red-sox-a…

You can see in this picture from before last night's game that Roman Anthony's right hand was pretty heavily taped up leading into it. Whatever happened in Tampa was much worse than they initially let on. In hindsight, Anthony likely doesn't even start if it's not a playoff game.

After last night, the Red Sox don't have many trustworthy innings in the bullpen. If they want to win tonight, they'll have to score, but they'll also need Sonny Gray to go deep into the game
"The Red Sox need to play every card they have to keep the season alive, but Sonny Gray keeping the Yankees off the scoreboard for as long as possible is the key." The Red Sox season hinges on Sonny Gray, writes @Jake3Roy overthemonster.com/red-sox-a…
