🚨 Good news for Georgia drivers: Auto insurance premiums are starting to come down. Eighteen months after Senate Bills 68 and 69 became law, Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick says the results are starting to show. Lawsuit reform is delivering for Georgia consumers.

Florida sees roughly 65,000 to 70,000 core tort and negligence lawsuits filed in circuit court every year. That volume feeds into higher insurance rates and everyday costs (businesses pass higher liability insurance and legal expenses through as higher prices on goods and services) that adds up to an estimated $1,306 tort tax on every resident. Gov. DeSantis and Florida Republicans delivered meaningful progress in 2023 with HB 837 and related reforms. Other states facing the same national tort cost problem should follow Florida’s lead and continue with further limits like rules on third party litigation funding, caps on non economic damages, stronger anti fraud tools, and tighter attorney fee rules to cut those hidden costs without denying recovery to people with legitimate claims.
It's even worse nationally, too. This would be a pretty easy political layup for the GOP to take in the near future.

31 staged truck crashes. 77 plaintiffs. One attorney is headed to prison for 32 months. “Operation Sideswipe” exposed a lawsuit system gamed for profit, leaving drivers, businesses and policyholders to absorb the cost. Accountability matters. freightwaves.com/news/louisi…

A new report from the U.S. Chamber's Institute for Legal Reform has found that lawsuit abuse involving commercial trucking accidents drives up legal and insurance costs for carriers, which in turn negatively affects supply chains and ultimately raises prices for consumers and businesses. The report also looks at the increasing problem of staged-collision schemes involving organized crime rings colluding with personal-injury attorneys and connected medical providers to generate fraudulent personal-injury suits. legalnewsline.com/legislatio…

$4.1 billion buys a lot of promises. What those ads don’t explain: attorney fees, medical liens and how much of a settlement may actually reach the victim. Consumers deserve transparency before they sign.
