This works even better in newsletters. Most readers skim on a phone. 1/3/1 gives them a reason to stop in every section. Worth testing on sponsor blurbs too. But like anything, your voice is the differentiator.
The easiest formatting upgrade to make your writing impossible to put down: The 1/3/1 structure is all about pacing. You give your reader an easy entry point, build on that with just enough info, and close with something impactful. Then, you repeat the process all the way down the page. It’s like a song, where each beat hits just right, pulling the reader through. 1 sentence: Easy entry hook 3 sentences: Context, data, or elaboration 1 sentence: Punchy takeaway Format for rhythm and readers will devour every word.

Platforms rent you attention. Email lets you keep it. Reach on social comes and goes for us. The list at about 40K subscribers is the part that kept working through every change. Own the list first.
Every couple of years someone tells me email is dead. First it was Facebook pages, then Messenger bots, then browser push, now AI agents. We made money on some of those, and push faded after a few great years. Our email list has kept working underneath all of it.

It’s not about the zoo tickets, it’s that at some point I looked up from my paycheck and realized OH, cool, I’m apparently funding the welfare state, Big Pharma, foreign countries, “Learing Centers,” government programs I’ve never heard of, Planned Fucking Parenthood, and seventeen layers of bureaucracy whose primary function appears to be emailing each other PDFs; meanwhile, I pay taxes when I earn money, taxes when I spend money, taxes to employ people, taxes on property I ALREADY OWN, taxes go up every year anyway, the school district discovers another $75,000,000 it absolutely cannot survive without, and if I so much as raise my hand and ask whether maybe, possibly, perhaps somebody could spend slightly less money, I am informed that I hate teachers, children, puppies and probably literacy, and NOW after financing civilization itself I’m also supposed to smile and subsidize someone’s trip to see the giraffes. Know what I mean?

Can confirm, this still works. Deployed today with a handful of grok bot prompts across two businesses. 20 emails total (10 for each) and in under 3 hours I earned 3 confirmed backlinks.
SEO pro tip: 1. Get an export of your competitors best backlinks 2. Ask your agent to find a topical reason for them to link to you too 3. Manually approve suggestions 4. Let the agent send the cold outreach Grok Bot just got me two DR 84 links on a site with 3M visits/month.

It’s the economy, stupid!
New Politico Poll: CA voters rank AI & data centers as only their #9 top issue. Even AI pessimists only rank it their seventh. Cost of living, housing, wealth gap, even democracy, far outrank AI. All the campaign consultants prioritizing this issue need to touch grass.

Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead. You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement. I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible. But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier. Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want. Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well. So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it. If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.

A fun thing Tesla could do: map pot holes and generally measure road quality/ride smoothness. Then rank municipalities on road quality and how quickly they fix potholes. Some good ol’ fashion competition might help make things better!

I think not supporting voter ID at this point is a pretty clear indication you don’t want fair elections, and we need to stop treating people who don’t want fair elections like they have a simple difference of opinion. freedom has been a relatively brief experiment. it’s at risk.
