According to new research by Harvard University, 432 U.S. hospitals closed between 2010-2025, while just 216 opened.
This is a loss of over 24,000 hospital beds.
Strengthening the healthcare workforce can help to expand access to care in these communities.

Wait times for healthcare appointments are up 19% since 2022, and up 48% since 2004. Wait times are even longer for specialists.
Patients are waiting longer and longer for health care, but the growing NP workforce can help.
More than 137,800 Nurse Practitioners are expected to be added to the work force over the next decade, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, which could mean shorter wait times for Nashville patients. bit.ly/3TZkZYN
Happy National APP Week!
APPs diagnose and treat patients, manage chronic conditions, coordinate care, and play key roles in our healthcare system.
We recognize and thank all of the NPs and other advanced practice providers who care for patients in Pennsylvania and nationwide!
Rural America needs more primary care providers.
NPs are already helping to fill that gap and providing care in communities where access is limited.
States like Pennsylvania need to act to remove the outdated barriers that limit patients' access to care.

Research found that #FullPracticeAuthority was associated with a 30% increase in the proportion of NPs residing in or near primary care HPSAs.
Granting NPs full practice authority would expand primary care into these communities where it's needed the most.

A 2026 study found that expanding NP programs increased the local NP supply, including in nearby rural areas.

When comparing Pennsylvania and Maryland, researchers predict that passing full practice authority in PA would increase the number of NPs by almost 29.5%!
It's time for Pennsylvania to follow the evidence and remove outdated barriers on patients and NPs.

Expanding primary care isn't just about training more providers.
It's also about removing barriers keeping qualified providers from opening practices and serving patients.
NP-owned practices are an untapped resource for expanding healthcare access.

NPs in NC report having little to no meaningful clinical interaction with their supervising physician.
This only adds to the data already proving mandates don't actually benefit patients and only add barriers for patients accessing care.

Demand for care is growing.
The physician workforce is not projected to grow at the same pace as the NP workforce.
As the NP workforce continues to grow, state policy must allow patients to fully benefit from the high-quality care NPs provide.

Happy Fourth of July!
As we celebrate, PCNP recognizes our hardworking NPs for your continued commitment to caring for and strengthening our communities. Wishing you a happy holiday!
The debate continues, but decades of research continue to reach the same conclusion.
#FullPracticeAuthority is safe, effective, and improves access to care.
Patients deserve policies based on evidence, and evidence consistently supports full practice authority!
The attempt to limit the amount of federal student loans available to students pursuing advanced healthcare degrees, including advanced nursing programs, has been blocked.
Reducing financial barriers for future NPs is an important step toward strengthening access to health care!

NPs in #FullPracticeAuthority states are more likely to open up practices and work in underserved areas, which helps to close gaps in care.
This has been proven in other states like Arizona, where the NP workforce grew by over 50% after implementing FPA!

NP Justin Rohrback left practice in PA for a bordering #FullPracticeAuthority state.
And Justin is not alone.
NPs are fleeing to neighboring states where they can do the job they've been trained to do, without expensive restrictions.
PA must act to keep skilled NPs here in PA!
