So happy for this youngin'!
Zion Turner: Baller! #HuskiesOverEveryone
ZION TURNER! I have NEVER been so proud of a guy as I was of YOU tonight.
If you don’t know his story, Zion started 12 games for UConn as an 18-yr-old True Freshman and led them from 1-11 to a Bowl Game (with wins over Fresno State and #19 ranked Liberty).
That was in 2022, and since then he’s been a (always prepared) backup QB in 40+ games—as things just haven’t gone his way luck/opportunity wise.
But Zion got the start tonight—for just the 2nd time since 2022—and he led Marshall to the win over South Alabama with his ARM and his LEGS.
I just can’t say enough about this young man’s PERSISTENCE, MENTAL TOUGHNESS, and his INCREDIBLE ATTITUDE through it all.
And the best part? If college football fans are lucky, they’ll get to watch Zion play even better than tonight in each of his final 6 collegiate games (including a bowl win), and lead Marshall to a 10-win season #WeAreMarshall
Gonna make bold statement:
IF this youngin' continues to wear the blinders and progress the way he has, when he puts it all together
#7
will be a 1st round pick

Unfortunately, @PCalin33 was unable to join me this week. He'll be back ready to go next week.
In this discussion, I cover the loss against Syracuse and prepare for the matchup with Temple.
I say some things that may ruffle some feathers, but just know, I love this team, program, and fanbase. We are heading in the right direction. Keep showing up, supporting, and cheering for this team.

I believe this motion concept has the potential to turn NFL and college football upside down.
Line a player up 15 yards deep. Give him room to accelerate toward the formation. Then have him bend left or right so he’s moving parallel to the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped.
A running start, with two directions still available.
I’ve always been drawn to gray areas in football. We have incredible offensive coaches finding new ways to use motion, but I think the depth from which a player starts his motion remains an enormous opportunity.
Some of you may have seen Lafayette line up a player 15 yards deep for a pass play a couple weeks ago. They didn’t motion him, but it was a great reminder that there’s no rule preventing a player from lining up that deep.
Now imagine using that space to build speed before the snap.
Watch the 2010 Winnipeg Blue Bombers clip below. Two players begin deep behind the quarterback and bend their paths sideways before the snap. You cannot bring the two player version to the NFL or college football, but watch the path each player takes and imagine an offensive package built around one player doing it.
A key aspect of this would be practicing the timing and execution, ensuring that the player is no longer moving toward the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped. For this concept, he must have completed his bend and be traveling parallel at the snap.
Over my time in the league, I asked a dozen different officials about this exact idea. They confirmed it could be done legally.
We were seriously exploring it, and there were coaches I worked with who wanted to implement it in a game.
As we looked into it, I dug into the NFL player tracking data going back to 2017. My summary found:
• Just 3 total snaps with a WR moving above 19 mph at the snap
• Just 3 total snaps with a RB moving above 18 mph at the snap
• Just 5 total snaps with a TE moving above 17 mph at the snap
Players in these position groups are capable of running significantly faster than those thresholds (in some cases, 3-plus mph faster). Giving them more room to accelerate could create opportunities to reach those speeds far more consistently and easily exceed them.
The potential advantage is significant, especially when you combine it with uncertainty about which direction the player is going.
Many defenses have rules and reactions for handling jet motion. But those rules become much harder to execute when the player is approaching from depth and can still bend either way. You don’t know whether he’s coming toward your side, but you know he’s going to be moving very fast.
Commit early, and he can go the other direction. Wait for him to declare, and you may be trying to match him from a near standstill.
That creates questions about leverage, pursuit angles, coverage exchanges and timing before the play even begins.
You could give him the ball. Send him across the field. Use him on a clear-out route. Make him a decoy and attack the space the defense vacates. Build complementary plays off the same starting alignment.
The defense can adjust, of course. But what does that adjustment give up elsewhere?
Coming up with a defensive plan for this could be a literal nightmare. You have to account for the speed, both possible directions and everything the offense can build around that motion. An adjustment that takes away one option could open up another.
That’s what makes this so interesting to me. A WR, RB, TE or FB starting from that depth could force defenses to rethink where they line up and when they commit.
It reminds me of baseball’s defensive shifts. An unconventional alignment became a routine part of the game, and eventually MLB changed the rules to restrict it.
I’d love to see an NFL or college staff fully explore the possibilities. Test the starting depth, the acceleration, the turn and the snap timing. Then build the complementary plays.
And no, I don’t want the NFL to ban this one too.

Would be nice to be contacted about these kind of reports. Wasn’t aware of this. @UConnHuskies
NEW: Miami (OH), James Madison and UConn have contacted the American Conference about joining the league, @Brett_McMurphy and @PeteNakos report.
Despite overtures from those three schools the conference is not expanding at this time.

Matt Suhey passed away yesterday.
He was my dad’s closest friend. After we lost my dad in 1999, Matt became the biggest father figure I had. When everything felt uncertain, he was there. My dad left him in charge and Matt never let that responsibility sit lightly. He protected our family. He looked after us. He made sure we were okay, year after year, without ever making it about himself.
That is who he was.
Their friendship showed me what real friendship looks like. Not the easy kind. The kind that lasts when the lights go off, when the stadium is empty, when life gets heavy. Brian’s Song told the story of Piccolo and Sayers. Somebody needs to tell the story of 34 and 26. Two men who trusted each other completely. Two men who became brothers.
I know @walterpayton was standing there waiting for him the second he got to heaven. I can see it. That smile. That hug. That reunion they both deserved.
Our family is so thankful for the love he showed us over the years. The Payton family will continue to lift Donna, Joey, Allison, and Scotty up in prayer during this difficult time.
Rest easy, Uncle Matt. We love you. We always will. 🙏🏽🐻⬇️

🚨WOW!!!
A Bronx pizzeria owner saw a woman eating out of his GARBAGE.
He walked outside, took her by the hand, led her in, and pulled a hot slice straight from the oven for her.
She sat down and cried. He said: "Don't cry. Eat. I don't want you eating out of a garbage." ❤️
His name is Daniel Romano.
He owns D'Romano's Pizza in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx.
He didn't shoo her away.
"I grabbed her by the hand and I led her to the pizzeria and I went in the oven and I got her a fresh slice and gave it to her. Sat down and she started crying. I said, 'don't cry, eat. This is not a problem.'"
In that moment, he decided he'd never let it happen to anyone again.
So he grabbed a marker, wrote a sign by hand, and taped it in his window for the whole neighborhood to see:
"To the people eating out of my garbage, I have more love for you than you think. Please come in and tell me you're hungry. I will forever give you a slice and fresh water to drink."
When they asked him why, his answer was simple.
"Right now, I think this world is shot. There's too much hate. Too much negativity. Why not put a smile on someone's face?"
And it turns out this runs deep for Daniel.
It goes all the way back to his mother, Carmella.
"She had a saying in Italian. She used to say, 'a desperate person will always make a better decision on a full stomach than on an empty.'
"It always stuck with me. So I feed people."
A desperate person makes a better decision on a full stomach.
That handwritten sign has traveled way past the Bronx now.
Daniel says people are calling him from Texas, Arkansas, Hawaii, even Alaska, all wanting to chip in and buy slices for hungry strangers they'll NEVER MEET.
"Don't ask me, I didn't even know Alaska had a phone."
It all started with one slice.
One woman.
One man who did something kind.
GOD BLESS Daniel Romano. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
