Every evangelical teen's battle was wanting Jesus to come back but also wanting to have sex first and then feeling guilty for wanting sex more than the end times. And repeat.

One thing I have learned leaning into a love-based Christian faith: the opposite of love isn't hate, it's fear. Fear breeds hate. But it also breeds subtle forms of harm, like our emotional need for certainty & control that we mask as "just standing up for the truth."

I said to my wife "Do you think anyone will commit suicide because they could not get an abortion?"
She instantly replied "yes."
Then she added "there will be all those boyfriends and husbands that murder them because they couldn't get one too" and that shook my fucking world.

I really wish people would stop drastically using the scenarios of rape or incest as the sole premise for an abortion. A woman doesn’t have to be in a traumatic situation for it to be reason enough. In fact there is zero explanation that needs to be given.

If people hate you because of Jesus, that's expected.
If people hate Jesus because of you, that's a problem.

I feel confident saying that God is far less concerned about our “commitment to scripture” in the abstract than God is about our commitment to loving people created in God’s image.

It’s very weird to me that companies are requiring a master’s degree for a salary less than 60k. I really wish we would all just go on strike.

If selling cakes makes bakers participants in gay marriages, then selling assault rifles makes gun manufacturers participants in mass shootings.

It is a strange contradiction that many of the same people fighting for laws to stop abortion don’t believe that laws will stop gun violence.

This is my favourite story I've written for MCC. A very cool project that realized gender equity needed to be at the heart of an agricultural project in Zimbabwe. mcccanada.ca/stories/great-m…

Theological seminaries should not be giving degrees to people who are rigid, lacking kindness, and unloving. Full stop.

11 of the 13 victims of the Buffalo shooting were Black. The shooter was a proud white supremacist & broadcast it on social media. He travelled 3hrs to target a Black community. Once again we’re reminded that white men with guns are the biggest threat to public safety in America.

If you’re going to require a mother to carry for 9+ months and give birth against her will, then the requirements for the father should be just as demanding.
If the obligations for women are significantly more severe than the obligations for men, ask yourself why.

As a pastor you've got to be willing to take people as they are. And live with them where they are. And not impose your will on them. Because God has different ways of being with people, and you don't always know what they are.

The cross is not where God inflicts violence on Jesus in order to vent his wrath; the cross is where God in Christ endures human inflicted violence and forgives it all.
The cross is not where Jesus saves us from God, but where Jesus reveals God as savior.
