Uganda must deliberately prioritize MANUFACTURING AND INDUSTRIALIZATION as key drivers of economic transformation. Adding value to our agricultural produce and mineral resources will create millions of potential employment opportunities, particularly for our youth, expand exports, reduce import dependency and increase foreign exchange earnings. Government must provide affordable industrial financing, reliable and competitive electricity, modern infrastructure and investment incentives. Our future prosperity lies in producing, processing and manufacturing what we consume and export. More factories, more jobs, more exports, greater national prosperity!

A thoughtful, captivating, analytical, statistical and well-referenced account of Uganda’s economic metamorphosis. From an economy built by cotton farmers, through recovery from war, to the pursuit of wealth creation. From operations of war to Operation Wealth Creation, this is a story stretching from the early 1900s to a present-day source of pride that inspires every patriotic citizen to direct every effort and resource at their disposal towards production. My team and I were inspired by the vision and depth of wisdom shared by Gen. Caleb Akandwanaho today in Kirema. I took the opportunity to present him with a copy of my book, Uninterrupted Africa: Engineering the Future. In exchange, I received with pride a book titled Organizing Land for National Economic Transformation.

Uganda must deliberately transform its economy into an export-driven, value-added industrial powerhouse. We must prioritize strategic import substitution, attract major investments in mineral processing, coffee, tea, sim sim , Sunflower agro-processing and manufacturing, and aggressively expand our export markets to China, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Indonesia , Japan , South Korea and the Gulf countries. We must move from exporting raw materials to exporting finished products. This will create jobs, increase foreign exchange earnings, strengthen the Uganda shilling, reduce our trade deficit and accelerate economic growth. Our economic future lies in industrialization, competitiveness, productivity and export diversification. Uganda must produce more, process more, manufacture more and export more! #strengthenValueaddition #exports #forex

We will ensure that tea farmers across the country receive fair and equal bonuses for their produce. Some tea factories are operating with outdated machinery, resulting in inefficiencies that eat into farmers’ earnings. We will modernise these factories to improve efficiency, reduce production costs and ensure farmers receive the full value of their hard work. Addressed residents at Makairo Market in West Mugirango Constituency, Nyamira County.

Today, I chaired the 65th session of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels as we prepare for our Joint Parliamentary Assembly with the European Union, which begins tomorrow. We agreed to put climate justice and equitable financing at the centre of our discussions. OACPS represents member states with a combined population of nearly two billion people. We will underscore the glaring imbalance between emissions and their impacts. OACPS countries contribute, on average, not more than 6% of global emissions but bear a disproportionate share of the devastating effects of climate change. During the discussions, we heard sobering accounts of how climate change is affecting member states and how inadequate financing remains a major challenge in responding to its impacts. Hon. David Houdeingar Ngarimaden of Chad highlighted the scale of environmental changes confronting communities that depend on Lake Chad, which has shrunk from 25,000 km² to just 2,500 km². Hon. Heroy Clarke of Jamaica shared how his country was devastated by Hurricane Melissa in 2025 and had to resort to loans to finance recovery efforts. He questioned why countries should have to borrow money and pay interest to recover from climate-related destruction caused by events to which they have contributed very little. I will co-chair the OACPS-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly alongside my European Union counterpart, H.E. Francisco Assis. I look forward to successful deliberations that deliver tangible results for both the EU and OACPS. I am accompanied by Hon. Omara Paul, Otuke County, Hon. Namutaawe Joan,Masaka District, Hon. Asiimwe Florence Akiiki, Masindi District, Hon. Kateshumbwa Dicksons,Sheema Municipality, Hon. Kankunda Ruth, Kiruhura District, Hon. Nabirye Annet, Luuka District, Hon. Kabarokole Sarah, Bunyangabo District and Hon.Tanna Shyam Jay, Tororo Municipality. @PressACP, @OACPS_PA, @Parliament_Ug, @ObothOboth, @Europarl_EN
