🇵🇱 Last week, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of Poland, Arletta Brzozowska, visited Halifax and met with representatives of the Nova Scotia Government. 💬 She discussed opportunities to deepen bilateral relations between Poland and Nova Scotia with Deputy Premier, Minister of Seniors and Minister responsible for Military Relations, the Hon. Barbara Adams, and Associate Deputy Minister of Energy, Dave MacGregor. Both sides spoke about the possibility of exporting LNG from Nova Scotia to Europe. With the province’s decade-long ban on hydraulic fracturing and uranium mining lifted last year, the prospects for future exports look promising. 💬 A meeting with the Minister of Growth, Development and Defence Industries and Minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie, the Hon. Colton LeBlanc, focused on opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the Polish and Canadian defence sectors. 🤝 A Polish business mission to Nova Scotia focused on the aerospace sector, planned for March next year, will provide a further opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation. During her visit, Chargé d’affaires a.i. Arletta Brzozowska attended the Canadian Defence, Security and Aerospace Exhibition Atlantic (DEFSEC Atlantic 2026), Canada’s second largest defence and security exhibition, showcasing hundreds of companies from across the sector. Renowned Atlantic hospitality and the rich commercial heritage of the Downtown Halifax provided the perfect setting for networking. 🇵🇱 🇨🇦 Earlier this year, MSPO Kielce, Poland’s largest defence and security exhibition, welcomed more than 250 Canadian companies, with Canada as the lead nation. Among the participants was the Halifax-based Atlantic Canada Aerospace and Defence Association.

The new sanctions package aims to limit Russia’s ability to produce weapons and finance its war against Ukraine⬇️
Russia is expanding its arms industry to continue its war against Ukraine. The EU is responding by targeting the infrastructure that supports Russia’s war machine. The new sanctions package targets 1,569 companies and individuals – from arms manufacturers to a network of suppliers providing the components and technologies used to produce missiles and drones. This is the largest-ever package of new listings under EU sanctions related to Russia’s war. It increases the total number by around 50% – from over 3,000 to more than 4,500. The objective is clear: to limit Russia’s ability to produce weapons and finance its war, and to make it harder for Russia to carry out further attacks against Ukraine.

Deputy PM, FM @sikorskiradek during a panel discussion entitled ‘The Return of Power Politics: Europe between War and Rivalry’ ⬇️
💬 The Russians are not prevailing at sea. On land, Putin is completely stuck. He's fighting in Donbass, in fact, for the 13th year and he still cannot conquer. And our assessments are it would still take hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers to conquer the remaining fortresses in Donbass. In the air, the planes of neither country can fly over the territory of the other country. The Russians are trying to terrorize cities. You can kill a lot of people, you can commit a lot of war crimes, but it doesn't end the war. | Deputy PM, FM @sikorskiradek during a panel discussion entitled ‘The Return of Power Politics: Europe between War and Rivalry’

#PolishAid is helping to build a model of psychosocial support for veterans and their communities that now serves people across Ukraine. Poland’s Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine, @P_Lukasiewicz, and Peter Wagner, Director of the European Commission’s Service for Foreign Policy Instruments, jointly inaugurated the „Żyttiesyła” Psychosocial Support Centre in Tsarychanka, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. The centre was established as part of an EU-co-funded project implemented by the Solidarity Fund PL (FSM) under the PRO_MentalHealth programme. 🇵🇱 ➡️ 🇺🇦 The 18 centres operating across five regions of Ukraine demonstrate how Polish Aid contributes to developing sustainable and effective solutions that can subsequently be scaled up through European cooperation. Most importantly, these centres ensure that people affected by the war can access professional support close to home. #PolskaPomoc #PRO_MentalHealth #ResilientTogether

Andrzej Poczobut’s @poczobut visit to Ottawa was brief, but his message resonated deeply: democratic values, human dignity and freedom of expression are worth cherishing, nurturing and preserving. A prominent Polish-Belarusian journalist and human rights activist, Mr Poczobut was imprisoned by the Lukashenko regime for his work and commitment to democratic values such as rights of national minorities. Recently released from a Belarusian penal colony as part of a multi-country prisoner exchange, he brought to Ottawa a deeply personal account of resilience and hope. During his visit, Mr Poczobut met with Canadian parliamentarians, including Speaker of the House of Commons Hon. Francis Scarpaleggia @HoCSpeaker and Polish-Canadian Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, Tom Kmiec @tomkmiec, members of the House of Commons’ Subcommittee on international Human Rights as well as Global Affairs Canada officials, journalists, representatives of think tanks, students, the Polish community and the Belarusian diaspora. 💬 He spoke about political prisoners and the situation of the Polish minority in Belarus, Belarus’s role in the region and its relationship with Russia, the prospects for democratisation, and the broader geopolitical consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine. At both the Embassy of Poland and the @uOttawa where he had a lecture, the rooms were filled to capacity. Mr Poczobut answered numerous questions from engaged audiences, making both meetings an opportunity for an open and substantive exchange. He described Belarus as being “five minutes” from becoming a fully totalitarian state, while stressing that this window can still be widened. The attention and solidarity of free societies offers hope to those facing repression and supporting the possibility of a more open future. 🕯️ Mr Poczobut also paid tribute at Ottawa’s Memorial to the Victims of Communism, remembering the millions who lost their lives under totalitarian regimes. 🤝 Thank you to everyone who joined us and showed such strong interest in these important issues. The full rooms and thoughtful questions were themselves a powerful reminder of why these conversations matter. 🔗 Listen to Andrzej Poczobut speak about democracy, human rights and the importance of critical thinking: youtu.be/n0-T1vc_ta4?si=RPhT… *** @HoCCommittees, @GAC_Corporate, @EUinCanada, @Polska

🇬🇧 English version follows. PYTANIA I ODPOWIEDZI. • Mam polskie i obce obywatelstwo. 🔗 gov.pl/web/kanada/etias-euro… 🇬🇧 Introduction of ETIAS in 2027 upcoming changes to Travel Requirements for the Schengen Area and Cyprus. The launch of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is planned for 2027. An ETIAS travel authorisation will be required exclusively for foreign nationals. The date of the entry into operation will be communicated at a later stage. If you are a visa-exempt national travelling legally to any of the 30 participating European countries (the Schengen Area Member States and Cyprus), you will need an ETIAS travel authorisation to travel to Europe when the system enters into operation. ETIAS authorisation is not a visa, but it will constitute a mandatory entry requirement. 🔗 travel-europe.europa.eu/etia… The authorisation is electronically linked to the traveller’s passport and remains valid for three years or until the expiry of the passport, whichever occurs first. If a new passport is issued, a new ETIAS travel authorisation must be obtained. Holders of a valid ETIAS travel authorisation may enter the territory of the above-mentioned European countries multiple times for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. However, possession of an ETIAS authorisation does not guarantee entry. Upon arrival at the external border, border control authorities will request the traveller’s passport and any other relevant documentation and will verify whether all entry conditions have been met. Further information regarding ETIAS is available on the dedicated website: travel-europe.europa.eu/etia…

Last week the “Friends of Ukraine” meeting at the Embassy of Poland in Ottawa brought together parliamentarians, diplomats, and security experts to discuss Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression and its broader implications for European and transatlantic security. The discussion took place during the visit to Canada of the “United for Ukraine” (U4U) delegation, a cross-party network of more than 200 parliamentarians from 30 countries. The delegation included Members of Parliament from Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Ukraine. Poland was represented by Ms Agnieszka Pomaska @pomaska, Chair of the European Union Affairs Committee of the Polish Sejm 🇵🇱 💬 In her opening remarks, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Republic of Poland Arletta Brzozowska highlighted the growing scale of Russia’s hostile activities across Europe, from acts of sabotage to political interference. 🌐 Panelists stressed that the security challenge extends far beyond the region. The cost of confronting Russian threats is significant, but the consequences of failing to do so can be even greater. One message was particularly clear: moral solidarity with Ukraine matters, but concrete action matters even more, including providing Ukraine with the military capabilities it needs and strengthening our own defence. This sends a clear signal that aggression must not be rewarded. The discussion, chaired by Dr. Balkan Devlen @BalkanDevlen of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute @MLInstitute, was brought to a close H.E. Egidijus Meilūnas @MeilunasE, Ambassador of Lithuania to Canada, who offered sobering reflections on Russian society itself, noting that the Kremlin’s war continues to receive substantial voluntary support, with financial incentives also playing a role. 🤝 Thank you to all participants, colleagues, and guests for a substantive and timely discussion. *** "Friends of Ukraine" is a series of meetings hosted in Ottawa by a diplomatic group of countries supporting Ukraine. @MFAestonia, @FinlandinCanada, @LV_Canada, @LTinCanada, @UKRinCAN, @Polska
