🇺🇦🚨 When air raid sirens began to wail across Ukraine, Professor Olena Berehova faced a painful choice. Although her heart and thoughts remained in her homeland, she had to leave to protect her children's lives. Then Poland opened a door. At the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, she found not only accommodation and a workplace but also a place where her family could breathe again. When the full-scale war in Ukraine began, many Polish scholars stepped up and supported their Ukrainian colleagues. This collaboration developed into a vibrant forum for academic dialogue. At the Institute of Art, Polish and Ukrainian scholars organised joint seminars, concerts, and research projects, ensuring Ukrainian voices continue to be heard. The first interdisciplinary symposium dedicated to Ukrainian art and culture took place less than a month after the outbreak of the war, in March 2022. 🎓 💬 “My aim is to deepen the cultural dialogue between Poland and Ukraine and to promote Ukraine’s integration into the European scholarly community”, says Professor Berehova. Her story is one of many. Across Poland, academic institutions offered Ukrainian scholars research stays, grants and fellowships, helping them continue their work despite the war. Because real solidarity doesn't only save lives. It helps people keep living them. #ResilientTogether #PeopleStories
