A little context to this @ftenergy claim that ship masters are being paid $100,000 month.
1️⃣The minimum wage for mariners is currently $690/month. Tanker masters are making about $12k/month.
2️⃣The $50k bonus is to sign up for a 3 to 4 month tour on a tanker that is doing shuttle service between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman
3️⃣The "danger pay" is only paid while the ships are making the Hormuz transit or if the ship comes under attack. It is unlikely that ship owners are paying 4x to 6x to sit in the Persian Gulf or Gulf of Oman, and most assuredly when the ship has departed.
4️⃣The "mercenary" term is derogatory. Instead, the mariners should be considered veterans for willing to take these chances with minimum defenses.
5️⃣ @business ran a story about a Filipino master making about $100k for a three month tour on a tanker, but not each month. This is not saying it is impossible, but it is on the very high end and probably unlikely.
It should be noted that shipping companies will Nickle and Dime mariners for every expense and do not think for a minute that they are ravishing their mariners with new found wealth because of their profits.
The biggest expense on ships are fuel and crew and they will do everything possible to minimize each to maximize profit.

A diesel export ban won’t help fix rising fuel prices. Here’s why. 👇🧵
Packaging is critical to product supply chains 📦🛍️ One 2-week supplier delay risks 11-20% of revenue, said most of the businesses surveyed
How to Increase Resilience:
1️⃣ Map supply chain exposure; geopolitics, lead times, single-source
2️⃣ Simplify & Standardize
3️⃣ Shift KPI’s; from lowest Cost per Unit to Total Cost of Ownership
4️⃣ Interpret signals early: lead time spikes, MOQ shifts, sudden surcharges

Update: Canada🇨🇦 US🇺🇸#tradetalks break with no deal. New #tariffs result.
BREAKING: Trade talks between the US and Canada have collapsed and the US has imposed new 50% tariffs on billions of dollars of Canadian goods.
Details include:
1. Canada's Prime Minister Carney vows to retaliate with "dollar for dollar" tariffs on the US
2. The tariffs will cover hundreds of items the US buys from Canada, such as plywood, liquor, electrical equipment and hockey gear, totaling ~$20 billion
3. US Trade Representative Greer said Canadian negotiators had "upset the balance" worked out over days of negotiations
4. The two sides had been discussing a deal that included lowering tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to 25% and autos to 15%
The US-Canada trade war appears to be back.
Learn more about what could happen near term
What this means now:
- No immediate impact on USMCA which remains intact until at least 2036
- 50% U.S. tariff on roughly $28 billion of Canadian goods including dairy, alcohol, electronics, furniture, building materials, plastics, textiles, toys, cosmetics, and more - including on USMCA-compliant goods
- Canada will retaliate dollar-for-dollar with matching tariffs on an equivalent value of U.S. goods
- Exactly what federal supports will become available for impacted workers and businesses is yet to be seen
- Provincial-level responses (ex. American alcohol off shelves) will likely occur in the coming days
