Today's ribbon cutting at Frank D. Spaziano marks another milestone in modernizing Providence's school buildings and investing in the students who will shape our city's future. A safe, welcoming, and supportive environment is essential for learning - and today is a proud reminder of that. When we invest in our schools, we invest in our children, our neighborhoods and a stronger Providence.

Every Providence resident deserves a safe, stable and affordable place to call home. As rising housing costs continue to stretch family budgets, my administration has been focused on helping neighbors stay in their homes and building more affordable housing across our city. On November 3 for the general election, we're asking for support to continue the development of affordable housing by voting yes on question number #6. An approval vote will help to secure $25 million in funds to finance affordable housing projects in the City to keep the momentum going. Since taking office almost four years ago, Education has been one of my administrations top priorities. We've made significant progress that has been essential to one of our greatest achievements - Providence schools returning to local management. From expanding access to Universal Pre-K to investing hundreds of millions of dollars in school construction, and from strengthening mentorship programs to providing free summer meals for students, we're incredibly proud of all we've accomplished. Providence students represent the future of our city and investing in them is the most important investment we can make for Providence. This morning, we celebrate the vital work of the Ever Hope Center in supporting our community. Tragedies like the ones at Brown University and the Dennis M. Lynch Arena remind us how deeply violence affects us all, long after the immediate crisis passes. Resources like the Ever Hope Center are essential in our community to ensuring people receive the care, healing and support they need.

The City of Providence is now accepting nominations for the 23rd annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. We're honoring local leaders who uplift Dr. King's legacy through their work in equity, civil rights, and justice. Know someone who embodies this spirit? Send in your nomination letter by November 30. Nominees should be Providence residents or individuals who've made significant community impact in the city. Letters should highlight how the nominee carries Dr. King's mission. 🔗Learn more about how to nominate a local leader: providenceri.gov/mayor-smile…

It was a pleasure to spend the weekend celebrating one of Providence's most cherished traditions. Our Italian community has long played a vital role in shaping the social, cultural and economic threads that make our city so special, leaving a lasting impact. Our city's greatest strength comes from the diversity of our people. Each community brings its own rich traditions and cultural influences, creating the vibrant and welcoming Providence we're proud to call home.

It was a pleasure to spend this morning with students at Achievement First discussing the various responsibilities of public service. Our youth represent the future of Providence, and educating them on how local government operates is essential to ensuring they are informed about the decisions that shape our community each day.

Three years ago, Hamas carried out a horrific terrorist attack against the people of Israel, killing and kidnapping innocent civilians and inflicting unimaginable pain on their families and countless communities. Today, we remember those whose lives were taken, stand with the families affected, and reaffirm our commitment to confronting antisemitism, hatred and violence in all forms. On this anniversary, we also remember those who continue to suffer from the violence and devastation that has followed. Providence will always stand for the dignity and safety of all.

It was great to spend this morning with the Providence Fire Department and the students at Pleasant View Elementary School at Fire Prevention day. Strong communities are built on safety and that begins with educating our youngest residents on how to stay safe.

Safe, accessible public spaces are essential for every member of our community. That's why we've partnered up with Spin to introduce new designated parking areas for scooters and bicycles throughout Providence. These clearly marked white corrals are part of a new system designed to reduce improperly parked devices that block sidewalks, business entrances, bus stops, curb ramps and other public spaces.

Providence is a city known for its exquisite culinary landscape - from five-star restaurants to neighborhood favorites, our food scene is one of the strongest reflections of the creative and diverse community that we are. Yesterday’s grand opening and ribbon cutting of Hope & Main's West End kitchen builds on that legacy by creating jobs, strengthening our neighborhoods, supporting local chefs, bakers and culinary innovators and so much more. This ribbon cutting marks the beginning of something very special, a place where creativity and opportunity come together to help us build a stronger future for Providence and the upcoming generations.
