I’m seeing it all over my timeline. People acting like historic sex offence trials were invented for Russell Brand.
Years from offence to conviction:
Gary Glitter 38
Ghislaine Maxwell 17–27
Rolf Harris 28
Max Clifford 30–37
Barry Bennell 27–39
Where’ve you all been?
I'm convinced Syed is the first person to suffer a traumatic brain injury from playing table tennis.
“Russia wants to destroy the West.”
Matthew Syed of the Sunday Times warns we’re “tilting towards war” because of Russian hybrid warfare efforts in Europe.

1/ Russell Brand's reinvention of himself as a right-wing conspiracy theorist & born-again God-botherer was partly because there are rich pickings among the terminally credulous, particularly in the US.
But it was also a strategic move designed to enable him to pose as...
If you are on here defending Brand I think it's absolutely reasonable to assume you've either done similar to what he has been convicted of, or you would, given half a chance

In 2014 Russell Brand and his then partner Jemima Khan were granted an injunction against masseuse Szilvia Berki. Berki claimed Brand had assaulted her, but when she contacted police she was told there was no case to answer. Instead an injunction was granted against Berki

The American public doesn’t hate war. They cheered or stayed silent when the Trump admin waged war against Yemen, Venezuela, Somalia, and other countries. What they can’t stand is when war stops being an abstract news story and starts impacting their own routines

In the UK, 3 of our last 4 Home Secretaries were South Asian women. One Hindu, one buddhist, one Muslim. All were fascists.

Here is what they will not say plainly, so I will say it for them:
The actual fear is not nuclear weapons or trade imbalances or military bases or any of the specific threats named in the foreign policy papers.
The actual fear is a world that functions without them at the center.
A world with Asian development banks, African trade agreements, Latin American regional institutions, Global South coalitions that don’t require Western approval to legitimize them.
Not an anti-Western world. Not a world that hates the West or seeks to harm it.
Just a world that has other options.
A world in which the West is one pole among several, one set of values among several worth considering, one history among many worth knowing.
A normal world, in other words.
The world as it actually was before two centuries of enforced hierarchy, and as it is slowly, stubbornly, irreversibly becoming again.
That world frightens them more than any weapon.
Because weapons can be matched.
Irrelevance cannot.

What Americans call left and right, the world calls empire.
Your left bombs Libya.
Your right bombs Iraq.
Your left funds Israel.
Your right funds Israel.
Your left starves Cuba.
Your right starves Cuba.
And when the dust clears, you ask which party was more humane while the corpses look at you in silence.
finding it impossible to tolerate how everything becomes entertainment to americans. war is discourse, elections are a sports event, politicians are celebrities, and the suffering of everyone beyond their borders isanother subject for debate. i don't have the heart for it

The Republicans didn’t lose because Trump attacked Iran, they lost because Iran had the ability to fight back. Republicans lost because Iran did whatever it needed to do to retain the military capability to impose an economic toll on Americans for the actions of their government.
