When the Road Is the Trap – the migration crisis “Trafficking persists in Africa because we fight it at the end of the chain, at the moment of rescue, instead of governing the whole chain that produces it.” Laura Noella Rwiliriza ✍️ panafricanreview.com/when-th…

My latest: The #TPLF’s withdrawal from Mekelle on 3 October may mark the end of an era in Tigrayan politics. It dominated Ethiopia’s federal government for almost three decades, ruled #Tigray with an iron fist, and later held Tigray through a devastating war. It now faces an uncertain future. Its retreat has weakened the newly formed rebel alliance against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and altered regional actors’ calculations, particularly Eritrea, which hoped to use it against Addis Ababa. Yet a military victory alone will not resolve the grievances that brought #Ethiopia to this point. panafricanreview.com/tplfs-p…

''Among the Maasai of East Africa, religious life centered on the benevolent god Enkai. Their rituals rely heavily on blessings involving milk, grass and cattle blood drawn from live cows without killing them, rather than on killing humans.''panafricanreview.com/human-s…

My latest article “This year, of the 520,210 students who sat for #Ethiopia’s School Leaving Certificate examination, 70,554 (12.8%) passed, while 87.2% (453,623) didn’t; that’s 20,000 more than last year, when the pass percentage was 8.9%. In a country plagued by civil wars and with increased recruitment of new ones, at times forced, the most probable option for this huge number is to join the state military, non-state actors, or leave the country using risky routes. These figures indicate much more than exam results; they highlight years of failed policies and systemic failure.” panafricanreview.com/ethiopi…
