Hello everyone! It’s been a while. My growing kiddos have needed lots of extra love and attention lately, which has been keeping me from posting!
Today was supposed to be the first day of open submissions, but unfortunately, I can’t publish another issue of Parakeet this year :(

Happy summer, everyone ☀️ As I’m sure you’ve seen, we’ve been silent these past few months. I’ve notified the team and folks who submitted quietly, but I need to I put the magazines on hold for now. My focus needs to be on family in this season of life. The plan
I’m already severely behind in the other magazines, and I have no idea how I can work on a third with the limited free time I have right now. I’m hoping to reopen Parakeet in the future and continue publishing work for young animal lovers. Thank you all for your kindness and

A book about wasps. Misunderstood and unloved, just as good as bees. Read why Christmas wouldn't be the same without them and what you can do to help them! Usborne "What Are" Series x The World's Most Ridiculous (Marvelous) Animals.

Happy days!!! @ParakeetMag Amanda! I know you're going to be happy to see this landing through my door.
We had some shipping errors (not eds fault), and finally, my contributor copy of this amazing mag has arrived!
"The Thing About Wasps" arriving today cheered me right up!

Creative folk! Have a look at this Kickstarter for an artist I met recently. Such a great idea, beautifully presented. So many prompts around for writers, but artists..? Fab rewards for pledging, too 🎨 @VicPictoria
#Fanfarealert 🎺 - a week for big new things
Look what I just launched & so many rewards for YOU when you get involved. @Kickstarter
Curious? If you have an artist in your life who can't seem to believe in how awesome they are, this is the solution.

I was so glad to find someone else who found these little critters just as fascinating as I did. Karla Kane's "Squelch with Me, Mudpuppy" celebrates salamanders in this jovial poem. Find it here! parakeetmagazine.wordpress.c…
I love this comparison of frog eggs to tapioca! Mark Stewart is such a talented poet with his lively diction and vivid imagery. Check out his poem "Tadpole Tap, Tap, Tapioca"!
(I'm snuggling with one of my black cats while writing this). Issue 3 opens with a poem that I connected with immediately. Goldie beautifully captures the magic of discovering your beloved pet at peace, and the quiet way they invite you to join them

I just saved my first wasp from a room in the house tonight by making sure it got outside rather than squishing it in a panic. Colour me PROUD.
Here is my story in @ParakeetMag all about the wasp, or is it?

Finally posting about the AMAZING contributors of Issue 3! To start, we have Thérèse Kieran, the artist of our cover piece, "Chloe". Chloe is a 13-year-old Sprollie who is "much adored" by her pet parents. Check out the full picture in Issue 3!

Tickled pink, like this lovely badge, to wake up and see my name on the honorable mentions! I'm genuinely stunned by the top 20 entries - incredible. Well done to everybody who entered and huge thanks to @viviankirkfield and the judges for all their hard work!
