Saying goodbye to Norway today, sadly. Our first session considered the question of whether we can experiment to a better society.  If any country on earth can, I have now found it. Brilliant, thoughtful people who demand evidence from their policymakers. That’s Norway.  Just think about it.  In economics we write papers about self-control; Norway built it into its fiscal rule. And Rogfast, the tunnel being bored under the sea just north of Stavanger, forced me to discuss my recent work on estimating the value of people’s time (ideas.repec.org/p/feb/natura…).  Norway did its own measurements and decided the time savings (as one example, the 40 minutes saved between Stavanger and the lovely Bergen) was worth tunneling through the seabed for. A summary of my week at Kåkånomics: four talks, meeting countless constantly curious people, and an unforgettable room above a restaurant that taught me you can debate the design of a society with a seriousness and good humor most countries reserve for football.
