Women are angry and they are speaking up. As they try to find a new language of protest, they have also got each other's back. My piece in @IndianExpress today on #MeTooIndia #MeToo and what this moment of rupture holds for us: indianexpress.com/article/op…

It’s that time of year when I break my Twitter hiatus to talk about the Annual Book & Bake Sale! This year, we have over 5K books, and its our BEST collection yet! Everything will be sold for Rs 20-350, and the proceeds will support education for children in need. (1/20)

Bravo @Paromita_Ch much grist for the mill : what art asks of us, as empathetic citizens & the 'consequences of silence' ....trigger pulse with many resonances indianexpress.com/article/op… "The withdrawal of Rooney’s books from the UK does not require readers to endorse her position on Palestine Action, whose proscription and methods remain contested. One can disagree with her decision while still asking whether a legal and commercial arrangement that makes publication untenable should trouble us. It asks us to consider the systems that govern cultural production and circulation: Who gets to speak, what causes are acceptable and who is penalised for speaking out. After all, the cost of dissent may be borne by those who speak, but the consequences of silence belong to us all." #arts #books #silence

Poet, classicist, essayist and translator Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature for an inventive body of work that brings the classical tradition into contemporary writing. From Autobiography of Red to Nox, the 76-year-old Canadian writer has spent over four decades dissolving the boundaries between poetry, fiction, criticism, translation and memoir. A nation that cannot argue about its future — that treats the economist’s dissent, the historian’s revision, the stand-up comic’s satire as inconvenient noise — loses not just the capacity to correct itself but the possibility of imagining something different from what it has Written by: @Paromita_Ch Read: indianexpress.com/article/op…

Sonia Gandhi’s Book Row, RSS vs Congress & Mohan Bhagwat’s ‘Oneness’ Message Sonia Gandhi’s upcoming memoir Belonging has turned into a political flashpoint after Penguin Random House India walked away from the India edition, with reports that lawyers sought cuts on references to Prime Minister Modi, the RSS, communal violence, minorities and the China border. At the same time, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat used a New York stage to speak of “oneness” and unity in diversity as Bharat’s DNA, even as the organisation’s mouthpiece Organiser branded the Sonia Gandhi-led UPA-era National Advisory Council a “classic takeover” by “Dimagi Naxals.” In this #ExpressNewsroom I along with my colleagues @manojcg4u @MathewLiz , @DeeptimanTY and @Paromita_Ch examine whether these are separate stories or two sides of the same deepening RSS–Congress confrontation over history, power and who gets to write the official narrative. #ExpressView | The abundant images yesterday — of thousands of mostly young and mostly peaceful protestors facing barricades and lathi charge and tear gas shells in the heart of the national capital — were stark and dispiriting. They indict the government. The protestors were reportedly responding to the call of the satirical online platform, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), to march to Parliament. The CJP has been conducting a sit-in protest since June 20 at Jantar Mantar, from where Sonam Wangchuk, fasting since June 28, was forcibly taken to a hospital on Saturday. But the protestors were arguably responding to more than one fast or one platform. They were rallying behind the issue that is being highlighted — the urgent need to reform a broken education system, beset with exam leaks, delays and irregularities, which leads, in turn, to swelling the ranks of the unemployed. spokespersons of the CJP. It is, of course, far from clear whether the meeting translates into reform and accountability. 🔗indianexpress.com/article/op…
