Shamonda is an orthobunyavirus in the Simbu serogroup, first isolated from cattle in Nigeria in 1965.
Culicoides biting midges are its likely vectors, supported by virus isolation from field-collected midges, though experimental transmission has not been demonstrated.

Shout-out to the healthcare workers on the frontline in the Democratic Republic of Congo #DRC. They deserve immense recognition for their incredible bravery, enduring not only the physical threat of a deadly Ebola disease, but also a severe, deeply hidden mental health toll.
They are silently doing their work. Not complaining, just saving lives and battling on while risking their lives daily to prevent a catastrophic global explosion of the Bundibugyo strain of the virus.
Massive respect.

Texas was built by hope. By people who had no business believing — but believed anyway.
To every Texan who’s ever wondered if anyone in power is paying attention: We are taking our state back.
Because a little bit of hope is a dangerous thing.

Good news: the extraordinarily unethical RFK Jr.-backed hepatitis B vaccine trial in Guinea-Bissau will not proceed.
Withholding the birth dose from newborns would have put them at risk of preventable infection and lifelong consequences - including liver cancer.

The new chair of the US vaccine advisory committee has questioned whether children still need the polio vaccine
Polio is still circulating in parts of the world, and the only reason American kids don't get it is the vaccine.
That's not a reason to stop. It's proof it works.

Important to note here: this is the first *reported* case in the US this year.

Here we go again. RFK Jr. has resurrected the CDC whistleblower story from 2014.
William Thompson did criticize the omission of a subgroup analysis involving African American boys. That's true and deserves examination.
But the famous 260% figure came from Brian Hooker's reanalysis, which was RETRACTED because of serious methodological concerns and undisclosed conflicts of interest.
The original CDC dataset remained available for independent analysis.
And in 2019, researchers followed 657,461 Danish children and found no increased autism risk following MMR vaccination, including among children with other risk factors.
Thompson himself publicly stated that vaccines save lives and that parents should continue vaccinating their children.
A disagreement over a subgroup analysis from 2004 does not establish that MMR causes autism.
Twenty-two years later, we have considerably more evidence. Perhaps it's time RFK Jr. read some of it.
HOLY CR*P 🚨 Robert F Kennedy Jr reveals that CDC Chiefs have been ordering scientists to DESTROY DATA for decades showing vaccines cause autism, then publish false findings
READ THAT AGAIN
RFK Jr. “I'll just tell you one example, and I could sit here and give you THOUSANDS. But in 2002, CDC did an internal study of Atlanta Fulton County, Georgia children, and looked at children who got the MMR vaccine on time and compared those to kids who got them later.
So in other words, kids who got them before 36 months and kids who got them afterward. The data from that study A study showed that black boys who got the vaccine on time had a 260% greater chance of getting an autism diagnosis than children who waited.
The chief scientist on that, Dr. William Thompson, the senior vaccine safety scientist at CDC, was ordered to come into a room with four other co-authors by his boss, Frank DeStefano, who's the head of the Immunization Safety Branch, and ordered to destroy data. And then they published it without that fact.”

The good news news is this isn't true
HPV vaccine is actually on the way to ELIMINATING cervical cancer
File this one under anti vaccine nonsense
🚨HPV shot INCREASES CERVICAL CANCER RISK in women who are long term ORAL CONTRACEPTIVE USERS
This is deeply disturbing.
MILLIONS of women take oral contraceptives DAILY, while doctors simultaneously encourage them to get the HPV shot.
“HPV vaccination actually increases the risk of cervical cancer in women who are long term contraceptive users, and it is mainly targeted at women and most women of, you know, teenagers and young adult women use oral contraceptives.”
How is this okay?
@chdtvlive
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
FALSE. The HPV vaccine substantially reduces cervical cancer risk. Long-term oral contraceptive use is a known cofactor in HPV-positive women, but no robust evidence shows the vaccine increases this risk.
