Claire Sheppard, who was diagnosed with heart failure after pregnancy, was part of the research team and helped shape the study: “So little is known about heart disease in pregnancy, my diagnosis was delayed and my life was put at risk..."
Heart disease affects around 2% of pregnant women and is the leading cause of maternal death in the UK. We want to change this ❤️ A major NIHR-supported study, known as PREG-HEART, is inviting pregnant women anywhere in the UK to join online and take part from the comfort of home on a smartphone or computer. The study findings will be crucial to build the evidence needed to improve care, identify risks earlier and make pregnancy safer for generations to come. Hosted on @thehearthive digital platform, the study is supported by the NIHR-@TheBHF Cardiovascular Partnership, @ImperialBRC and @pumpinghearts, and is led by researchers from @imperialcollege and @KingsCollegeLon. His dad found a lump in his armpit and tried to get a scan at the hospital. They made him wait 6 weeks. 6 weeks later, it was too late and the cancer had spread to his chest. So Elan decided he was going to do something about it. He quit his job, liquidated his 401K and built the Uber for healthcare. A marketplace for testing: you can filter testing based on price, distance and quality and book it yourself - like booking an Uber! He called the company @oneimaging. And it is already helping millions of people across America. Elan is totally revolutionizing radiology. Sometimes the difference between life and death is just being able to get your scan on time. And now it's much easier for that to happen.

My waiter had dementia and forgot my order. I visited a cafe in Japan that ONLY hires people with Dementia. It's called the Cafe Of Mistaken Orders. Sometimes the servers bring you the wrong food, never bring your order, or sit down and join you instead. But the point of this cafe is to be a place for dementia patients to feel needed and have purpose. And this cafe is working. Japan has discovered that being socially connected actually slows down the progression of dementia. So now there are 8,000 dementia cafes all over Japan! The U.S. should be more like Japan. We should keep elders out of nursing homes, find ways to give them purpose, and part of society until their last days.
