If you’re looking for me on here, I’m over on Bluesky mostly now - and continue to post infrequently

Have just realised, having found some old files, that it was almost exactly 20 years ago that Chris, Jez and I held the first meeting of the @DiggersForum (16th Oct 2004). To be honest I didn’t expect that UK #archaeology would still need this voice in 2024, but it does

On this day in 1989 - my first ever archaeological experience! Slightly shocked to realise that the first day of the Wroxeter training school was 35 years ago, which makes me feel very old indeed, but it set me on my way to a career I’ve (mostly) loved

2004> 2014> 2024… This year marked 22 years working in Samegrelo, west Georgia, since I started out there in 2002 before starting my PhD, so I wanted to add to the series of photos this summer

It is clear that @elonmusk needs to stay out of British politics. RT if you agree.

This morning the team enjoyed a visit to the nearby Shkhepi fortress - contemporary with the early Byzantine fortifications at Nokalakevi

this is just section 76 of the Venice Commission's trashing of the GD's law on "transparency of foreign influence". Line by line, they take it apart. You could do dozens of tweets with their finding. It is not surprising, but entirely stark.

Another shout out to ‘past me’ and poor decision making: finally had a big lump on my knee looked at, diagnosed as prepatellar bursitis, largely caused by repetitive kneeling (aka housemaid’s knee). ‘Past me’ thought kneeling pads on digs were pointless. ‘Past me’ was an idiot
