Here’s a short story about who wins and loses from the status quo of our inheritance tax rules - and about, what you might politely call ‘sub-optimal’ journalism🧵
I think the MP for solihull east & meriden was involved in the chamber of commerce before he went to Westminster? Being anti-trade and business seems like an odd stance to take for such a person.

I am disappointed at the Prime Minister’s response to my question at PMQ’s today.
Watford General Hospital will save lives, and the Prime Minister’s decision to prioritise giving train drivers a pay rise over the health of people in our area is harmful and disappointing.
Just our new MP, showing the economy stagnated with new figures revealed this month.
The only problem is, the figures relate to June and July, when his own party was in power (mostly).
We’ve elected another one it would seem.

As well:
- Some pollsters performed better than others (see @drjennings thread on this)
- Some MRP models performed better than others. In fact the majority of MRPs weren’t that accurate.
So there are definitely other things that require addressing from pollster to pollster.

- That error did not change the result, nor the story of the election (Lab landslide)
- Pollsters, generally, told the story right
- Other polling errors (underestimating Con, lowballing Lib Dem seat total, overestimating Reform) were pollster, not industry, specific
That said:
We were hindered by the fantasy poll Labour put all over their campaign, claiming they were neck and neck with the Tories. This turned the heads of many 'tactical' voters wanting to remove the Tories, unaware that Labour can't get more than around 12,000 votes. 3/6
As it is Deirdre Fox has returned to where she lives after her 6-weeks of fun, we're left to deal with our new Conservative MP. We move on, hoping that next time voters remember this little trick and that the Lib Dems are the only other party to have won a GE in Solihull. 5/6
Another example of how flawed these MRP polls are. For some made up reason, they had an incumbent Lib Dem, a party predicted to increase seats in the election, losing to a Tory party in decline relatively comfortably. Flawed and fantastical.
Turns out that MRP poll plastered all over Labour literature was complete fantasy, who knew?! Ms Fox will stroll off back to whence she came, leaving us with a shipped in, almost carbon copy of Julian Knight for another five years. 1/2
