The decisive game of the match. Games of such importance often are not great games, the tension is so high. But that was not the case here!
40 years ago today, @Kasparov63 won one of the great games in World Championship history - the 22nd of his World Championship match v. Anatoly Karpov. Kasparov sealed 41.Nd7!! & told his seconds "Either I have gone mad, or I have a forced & very beautiful win!". #chess

Garry Kimovich may not be as famous for his defensive prowess as he was for his attacks, and yet… ridiculous news :(
"Russia has been plotting to assassinate chess player and dissident leader Garry Kasparov in the U.S. for months. This summer, US authorities informed Kasparov that he was a target of a Kremlin plot to kill him and placed him under special protection..." elmundo.es/internacional/202…

Kudos to all of them. Nothing tops team spirit, I guess. Phenomenal showing behind arguably the two best teams on the planet atm

Wadim, having made absolutely everything possible to be thoroughly despicable, collects the fruit of his arrogance. Oh and meanwhile, Arkady II wins with 7 rounds to spare. So long, JHB!

The fact that, in some capacity, Grisha and Timusha are the faces of chess goes to show that this confidential world has greatly deteriorated

Gerojam slava!
What an absolutely epic photo! Two legends in one frame - Vassily Ivanchuk and Alexander Beliavsky. While Ivanchuk plays for board 2 of Team Ukraine, Beliavsky is the captain of the team. Did you know Beliavsky shares the record for having defeated the most undisputed world champions along with Paul Keres and Viktor Korchnoi! Photo: Rafal Oleksiewicz/FIDE

Unsure Denis’s English is good enough, either he said this and was high, or his declarations were badly translated. It makes 0 sense whatsoever otherwise
🇧🇾 Denis Lazavik: "Hikaru doesn't know how to play at all" Denis Lazavik on his victory over Hikaru Nakamura in the semifinal of the Esports World Cup 2026. "I knew I would beat Nakamura in the semifinal. I have already played him. He doesn't know how to play at all! No jokes. His style has so many weaknesses that it's clear how to use them. His opening often limps, his positional play too. Moreover, I already beat him in London. So, I was simply sure that I would dominate on all fronts. There was not a single match where I was so sure."

@ffechecs Salut FFE!

❗️FIDE Statement on Accommodation Issues at the 2026 Chess Olympiad❗️ FIDE notes with deep regret that, during the first day of the 2026 FIDE Chess Olympiad, shortcomings in the accommodation arrangements left some teams without proper accommodation, forcing them to rent rooms in the city at their own expense. Although accommodation matters fall within the remit of the local Organizing Committee, and FIDE has no authority in this regard, FIDE nevertheless considers it its duty to assist the federations affected by this situation. Accordginly, FIDE has found additional financial resources and officially confirms that all teams which had to secure their own rooms will be reimbursed for the cost of accommodation of the appropriate standard, for a period of up to three days. In addition, all teams that are forced to stay in official hotels that do not meet FIDE-approved standards during the Olympiad shall receive an additional compensatory payment from FIDE. FIDE deeply regrets that these organizational problems occurred and apologizes to the affected federations and teams. While the shortcomings arose at the level of the Organizing Committee, FIDE's priority is to ensure that no federation suffers financial losses as a result. Our fundamental objective remains clear: every participating federation must be treated fairly and provided with the conditions established for the Chess Olympiad.

We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training. Bisous @ffechecs
